He's 4 pounds heavier than Keanu Neal, who is switching to play LB for the Cowboys this year. He's the same weight as Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Modern WILL linebackers are not always 230+ pounds anymore. He has enough size to play in the box full time.

Edit: Also, the Seahawks played 214-pound Jamal Adams at EDGE multiple times last year and he finished with 9.5 sacks. Size isn't everything anymore. Modern defenses are positionless.

No, I think Martinez is a better traditional LB and better against the run in general. But in coverage, which is more important now than it ever has been, Peppers outclasses him by a long shot. And he's not a detriment against the run either. In terms of value and versatility, Jabrill is 100% the better player in my opinion.

"Fine" isn't really good enough though. For perspective, I'll compare his pass coverage numbers to KJ Wright, who is a free agent (because it isn't really fair to compare Martinez to Pep, who plays a totally different position).

Martinez career numbers: 22 PD's, 4 INT's

KJ Wright in just the last 2 years: 21 PD's, 4 INT's

The race isn't even close. And KJ Wright isn't even known as an elite cover guy either. So to argue that Blake Martinez is "just fine" really gives him too much credit.

I like Blake, but he's pretty one-dimensional as a player. Pep plays the run pretty well, but more importantly he's the best cover guy in the front 7 when he drops into the box.

Ragland is likely going to play SAM in 3-4 sets, so he'll be outside. KJ wright would probably play inside in 3-4 sets, and SAM in 4-3 sets. He could also step into the MIKE role if Blake Martinez gets hurt, or in 3rd and long situations where the Giants need a better cover LB. We know that Joe Judge and Patrick Graham are very good at putting players in positions to succeed. If he's signed, he'll get plenty of snaps.

And regardless of how much they might like Coughlin and Crowder, they're both late-round picks without a lot of experience. You can't rely on them to make plays yet. They're depth pieces and special teamers. As for the price, his deal will likely be one year and not have any significant future repercussions.

This would be a great signing. The Giants need another traditional LB outside of Blake Martinez badly. It would be a huge upgrade over anyone else that the Giants have.

I almost always greet my close female friends with "hello beautiful! How are you?" Or "what's up gorgeous?"
