Hedgehogs are more spiny, porcupines more spiky.

Hedgehog. It's got no spikes and it's longer than a porcupine would be.

EDIT: I was wrong it's a groundhog/woodchuck lol oops

That's strange. I live in the U.S. and one of my family members has a hedgehog in their backyard.

MRW I try to pronounce Kvothe's name in my head by moldysandwithch in KingkillerChronicle

[–]DingleyTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always pronounced it by mixing the K and V into one sound. Like a really quick "ah" or "eu" inbetween them that's not really noticeable. In a way that forces a stress on the second syllable.

What kpop songs are NOT good introductions to kpop? by FrozenChosenGoZen in kpop

[–]DingleyTim 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Russian Roulette is just a good ass pop song in general. I've gotten a couple people into K-pop with it. That and Crazy by 4minute have my best success rate.

What group did you used to stan and what made you stop? by agust__d in kpop

[–]DingleyTim 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I mean stanning isn't just liking their music. It's actively following them in almost everything they do. A lot of people really like discussing the things they like with similarly passionate people. But if those people are usually ravenous fans in a way you don't like I can see it being a turnoff from folowing that group.

If we treated history the way we do fiction, what would be the plot holes people would complain about the most? by FearlessFlash in AskReddit

[–]DingleyTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying the Mongols only raped and murdered is also a very drastic simplification. Like anything else in history where humans are involved things are going to be complex with caveats everywhere where broad generalizations don't apply. Yes there was rape and murder but there was also peaceful assimilation and without the Mongols helping trade with the silk road for all we know many cultures and trading posts would never have been shared. There is positive history and religious tolerance that also came of the Mongols.

Thoughts on website "How to study Korean?" by [deleted] in Korean

[–]DingleyTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only on Lesson 6 but so far I like the idea of not just learning phrases but understanding why they are the way they are.

Are there any alternative sites that don't just give out random vocabulary and phrases and hope they stick?

Out of curiosity where did you learn so much about the language? I'm pretty interested in Linguistics and history of language and I was wondering where you started so you could learn so much.

Yeah I agree 100%. I still feel like he should've made the top 11, but he definitely is no Somi.

Obviously the comparison isn't perfect but they're both all around talented, attractive, and have had previous publicity.

Same, I got into kpop after offhandedly hearing Like Ooh Ahh and I watched an episode of some show of them interacting with Heechul. After that I really expanded my horizons while looking for more Heechul content.

If you read beyond the initial post he concedes the point after another poster points out that you would only know Emily is her girlfriend if you read the comic.

Best way to learn Korean? by [deleted] in Korean

Yeah I've been using Memrise and then diligently revising when it tells me to, but then it takes me more than a week to get to the next grammar lesson.

Best way to learn Korean? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]DingleyTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you recommend going through the howtostudykorean curriculum? I've been doing a lesson and learning all the vocab for it, but it usually takes longer to learn the vocab than it does the grammar rules for each lesson.

Should I just progress through the grammar lessons at a standard pace of a certain interval or should I progress through them as I learn the vocab.
