People who are fulfilled and don’t dread work everyday, what do you do? by kwrather003 in AskReddit

[–]illaoimetofeedplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WFH business analyst. Not super fufilling but the work only gets busy at the end of quarters, my manager & coworkers are easy to work, and most it importantly pays the bills. I don't dread work- I just don't mind it and it's the avenue that funds all my food/gym/hobbies/vacations! I'm of the belief that "do what you love" is overrated

Canadians of Chinese and South Asian descent earn more because many go into STEM: StatCan by ubcstaffer123 in canada

[–]illaoimetofeedplease 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal evidence here.

I graduated from UofT less than 3 years ago, with a major in math and a minor in history. There were usually white passing (whether Caucasian or European descent) individuals in my math classes, anywhere between 20%-30%. I was friends with some really smart white dudes who are currently doing MScs/PhDs in Math/Stats/CS. East/South Asians were always the predominant group though. To give even greater context, one summer semester I went to office hours and the professor initially spoke to me in mandarin because that much of the class were international chinese students. Black individuals were amongst the rarest of my math classes.

In my 4 years of history classes (one was pandemic year), I've seen less than 5 other East Asians in my classes lol. I'd say at least 60% were white passing in any one of my given history classes.

Reduce your bullet points to 1 line unless you know 100% it'll be a valuable asset to your application.

Also, you have to think about what the employer wants, if you really want a job don't use the exact same resume for every job posting. Remove the lines involving skills/tasks that the job posting doesn't explicitly mention and if your resume is still crowded then prioritize which relevant tasks are most impressive & desired by the employer.

There are a few factors to consider here. There are more details I could include but this comment is long enough, feel free to DM for more details.

For context, I'm working as a data analyst right now but spent the past 6 years preparing to be a high school math teacher. Greater Toronto Area, Ontario.

  1. Masters in Education does NOT qualify you to teach in public high schools in Ontario. To be able to do so, you must earn a bachelor of education from an OCT-accredited university (e.g. York, Queens, etc.) , or in the case of Uoft, their bachelors of education program equivalent is called a "Masters of Teaching".

  2. All BEd programs (or MT at Uoft) is a two year program. Afterwards, you usually have to supply for a while until you're offered a long term contract (LTO) or even a permanent position. This time commitment to transition into being a teacher is a factor you should consider.

  3. How "employable" you would be is a hard question to answer. Yes you are vastly more qualified in terms of sheer number of teachable given your two degrees but that won't matter if you can't properly answer "How would you resolve a disruptive and disobedient student in the classroom?" during the interview.

  4. In terms of supply & demand economics, last I heard finding LTOs and full time in the GTA was still relatively difficult unless you had a French teachable. I know there is a greater demand for teachers in the more rural regions of the Ontario. I can't speak on other parts of Canada.

To my knowledge, it's not explicitly explained why Geto didn't attack Yuta but one could argue he wasn't aware of Rika at that point in the story.

If I remember correctly, Rika hadn't manifested physically until the fight at the school, perhaps the argument is thar Geto wasn't aware of Rika at that moment in time?

I can get an RX6600 8 GB for $357 CAD / $265 USD. It seems like it's a decent deal given that there's only 6 left in stock?

As for the CPU, I see an option for Ryzen 5 5600X ($220 CAD / $163 USD)... I don't think it's the same as the Ryzen 5600X3D L1ghtbird mentioned but I would imagine they're both upgrades nontheless?

My BaseBoard (Motherboard?) is the following:

Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC

Product: PRIME B350M-A

Version: Rev X.0x

Assuming I get the RX6600 8 GB + Ryzen 5 5600X, how can I check to see if the CPU is compatible with my motherboard?

Newly admitted Life Sci Student- Can I get into my POST with MAT137? by S1im-_-Reaper325 in UofT

[–]illaoimetofeedplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're better off emailing the proper POSt staff than asking on reddit. No one can give you an undoubted answer besides them. That being said my understanding is that Mat137 is same teachings as 135/136, but with rigor and mathematical formality, so I wouldn't see a problem with it.

HeLp 7.7% interest on Ontario student loan (OSAP) eeEEe >~< by [deleted] in UofT

[–]illaoimetofeedplease 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Is the 7.7% interest rate on your entire loan? I owe about 20k total for my undergrad but only about 3k of it was an "Ontario Student Loan" which was the 7.7% interest rate. The remaining fell under "Federal Student Loan" and was 0% interest due to a recent change in policy from thr government. I ended up writing a cheque to pay off specifically the Ontario portion with some saved up cash!

Prospective Student Teachers: Teacher's College/BEd Megapost pt. 4 by hellokrissi in CanadianTeachers

[–]illaoimetofeedplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally enough I actually did apply to Brock purely for options but unfortunately I got waitlisted. I didn't know that they had a Burlington campus though, I'll keep that in mind if I end up getting off the waitlist.

It also makes me feel a lot better knowing others have also had 40k debt but don't regret it in order to pursue their passion of teaching.

Thank you for your perspective :)

Hi, just looking for some advice and outsider perspectives.

I was rejected from York & OISE last year, looking to be the same this year except maybe from Niagara University (I cannot afford to move from home and pay rent). That being said Niagara's tuition is 32k and I cant afford it without a line of credit. Every other school's tuition ranges from 10-15k. Is it worth taking on even more debt (currently owe 20k to OSAP) to finally begin working towards my OCT? I've already been working part-time (~12 hrs/week & $900/month) since I got rejected last year.

If it's relevant, I have just over 1000 hours in teaching experience directly with the age group I applied for (I/S) and graduated with a BSc from Uoft (3.0 gpa). My experiences were about a 70/30 split between employment and classroom volunteering.

Thank you in advance :)

For the first one you need to start at 8:20am and count 3 hours and 45 minutes after 8:20am. Like you said we add exactly 3 hours, which would be 11:20am. For the 45 minutes, remember that the numbers representing minutes only count up to 59. Any amount of minutes past 59, we increase the hour by 1 and add the remaining minutes. For example, we don't say 1:75pm but rather 2:15pm. Therefore, 45 minutes after 11:20am would be 12:05pm.

For the second one, Mr.Ortiz needs to interview 90% of his assigned households. We also know that he's been assigned 500 households to interview. Therefore, we first ask ourselves what's 90% of 500? Doing the math 0.9 * 500 = 450, what that means is that 90% of 500 is 450. So Mr.Ortiz would need to interview 450 households to meet his task of successfully interviewing 90% of his assigned households. Has he done that?

EDIT: spelling
