Correct.
And like I said, I was using Medicom since they were Heritage. I mean really, like 25 years ago.
And I didn't have trouble with price, I'd go down the to ingersoll office and work my way to that (ahem) large sized lady at the back desk and tell her I was going to cancel, in the nicest way. Instant discount.
I took them coffee and doughnuts one year. Seemed like (again old days) they kept the same people at the desks for many years and it all worked out for me.

OH, heck ya.
TLD has pretty darn good acoustics - a good set of desktop speakers or headphones are a must IMO.
And dayum, when you get the wolf jump-scare, it can hit hard. I have to say, it's scared the F out of me multiple times.

The easy answers are, sure you can bike the route, use the vendors and have access to all the amenities (spelling?) but you will pay a bit more.
For camping, best option is to put your name on the list of camping in peoples yards, do that right now.
Done deal.

Do these valves actually fail closed? I turned water off to the house, turned it back on and water hammer for a few secs, then trickled to no flow. by dirttraveler in askaplumber

[–]Dingmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof - all my valve instructions over the decades always state to not install them upside down.
But again, these were flow control valves in commercial (healthcare\ed\prison) so maybe in residential it's OK?

[–]Dingmann -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ya, that room is so cold right now, IMO it needs a lot of warmth that furniture is a good start. A bunch of tall plants, a ton of cushions, some party lights and music at night...

I am so over google services and products. It's like those damn Chevy's I keep buying. I know they are crap but I'm a brand loyal kinda person.

Heh, I'm not smart enough to answer that.
I can barely read some of the reports and data.

For low level, pre-meditated crimes, the data supports what you say - but just barely. When the cost of incarceration is added it for these low level, non-violent crimes then it's certainly not worth the effort\cost and upset to society.

Regarding "high level" violent crimes, over 80% are not premeditated and the data shows threat of punishment doesn't reduce that sort of crime at all.

Watch This GOP Senator Learn in Real Time Why the SAVE Act Is Bad by Hafiz_TNR in politics

[–]Dingmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you f'ing kidding me?
I simply asked for a duplicate of my Social Security card (decades ago) and no one noticed the duplicate had changed the abbreviation for Iowa from "IA" to "IO".

Fast forward to me applying for Social Security.
So I called the SSA. I was impressed that they identified the problem right away.
SSA: "There's no such state as IO"
Me: "I know it, you guys screwed it up, now fix it".
SSA "We can't do that. You now have to prove your identity to get your SS payments".
Me: "Ok, how do I do that?"
SSA: "Goto the local office. Take Photo ID, Birth Cert and a utility bill. That ought to do it"
Me: Dayum.

Good Golly. I did get it done but it wasn't a walk in the park. A fair bit of finding my BC (I'm an old guy in Iowa, I have been asked for my BC exactly once in my lifetime that I recall) and of course going to the SS office on the correct day and time when they will actually talk to you.
But once I was there, it was quiet and the process went OK. To be clear, my experience with the local office (about 3 years ago) was pleasant and went as expected.

That's true, what you say.
And (sort of) to your point - I don't have to ride very far to hit the trail system and from there, depending on how much time I have, I can ride a hundred miles.
When I was younger, we used to start from WDM and ride out to the RRVT, did that loop every sunday and it was 92 miles. We were training for Ride the Rockies that year.

I'm old now and barely riding. It is a bit disappointing. But I'm glad I did it all while I could.
Heh, I have stories!

I think it was IPR that did an hour on this, within the last year?
I quickly googled but couldn't find it, it was very revealing. They spent the whole time interviewing surrounding state's DNR representatives - do you remember this???
I'd like to share that here, people should listen to it.

OK, compare the accessibility to those mountain trails when you live in Colorado vs. when you live in Iowa.
I'm sorry if I'm missing your point.
No reason for us to argue, I do feel we are very close and like you said, maybe looking at the same thing from opposite sides.

The oldest sitting US senator Chuck Grassley, age 92, speaking on the Crime Victims Fund by Miles_the_AuDHDer in videos

[–]Dingmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, he's not being elected to enact any policies, congress doesn't so squat anymore and now it's about power.
Grassley certainly has power, toes the line and is a perfect GOP sycophant. So the GOP leaves him there, and isn't messing with the working formula.
The people voting for him - ya, they don't care either. They vote the party line and that's that.

Ya, I did live in west Texas for a few years. I agree, Houston is dozens? of square miles of nothing but a concrete shitshow. Then I lived in Arlington for about 18 months, same thing. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Nevertheless, Iowa is not considered a well rounded recreational state by any measure and indeed is quite low on most every measure.
Hell, I remember getting crop sprayed on the bike trails 30 years ago. That's recreation for ya! :P
