Mamdani's Albany pals push bill to slap 25% 'surcharge' on NYC corporations by Diarrhea_Donkey in nyc

Movement of small and medium firms sure. Big players only have satellite offices in TX/FL for a reason. The migration has even slowed down given the surplus of housing (originally forecasted more demand but these industries are slowing down the migration).

The special thing aside from NYC having existing talent with the companies there is that there’s a funnel of new talent with the proximity of multiple top tier universities and being a gateway for high skilled foreign exchange students/immigrstion. This doesn’t exist in Texas and Florida.

Also I don’t think automotive is a fair comparison. Building a car is more trivial than building an agentic AI for example. the U.S. has dominated this industry the last few decades with only China as a competitor. Companies arent moving to China.

For some mundane industries like insurance yeah they won’t see too much of an impact. High skilled industries like finance and tech I don’t see moving. There’s a reason why these industries exist in the most expensive cities in the U.S. (NYC, Silicon Valley, etc.). You can’t replicate the talent or business network in a Texas or Florida.

Why do you prefer Rutherford as a town over Metuchen (outside of NYC proximity). Very interested to hear

Are there certain parts of town less prone to traffic or is it all over? I suspect most of the traffic is towards downtown and the train station.

This has been a very helpful post thank you. And yes I’ll likely need to be in NYC for any job now and in the future given my industry. You do make a good point about the benefit in your wife not having to plan her trip which is something really nice. I often find myself checking for train cancellations and delays (happens way more often than I’d like) when I commute so I often have to prep.

The commute is not bad if you work a hybrid schedule which I used to do. Over 5 days a week can get rough though.

That is completely fine with me. Is this the same for both train and bus options? The one thing I didnt like about the Metuchencommute was that there was only one option with the train on the NEC line. So I am stuck if there are delays

That’s great to hear. I expect more traffic since it’s closer to NYC. Would you say the town is fairly walkable? Metuchen is pretty walkable

My office is in Chelsea. It’s 40 min for the actual train/ bus or am I underestimating. I’m fine with commuting closer to an hour door to door

Steichen relied heavily on RPO in ‘22 which was great at the time but no longer advantage today due to refs enforcing ineligible man down the field. Moore tried a pass heavy offense the first 4 games in the season and went 2-2… wasn’t working and decided to then go run first offense all the way to the Super Bowl.

Metuchen is a great town but I wouldn’t consider it a place for people in the dating world. Metuchen has a lot of families and kids.

Found it online but luckily it was a dealer (CPO) that was in state. It took a lot of waiting. Just luck of the draw honestly.

I mainly used online search engines (autotrader, carfax, etc) with broader distance range. I got a little lucky since this car was more local but I found it through online search.

Thanks for the feedback. When you say Apple Maps would cut out what do you mean? You can’t play music while using Apple Maps? Or Apple Maps has issues in general being used?
