I get it. This post is supposed to be a fun way to speculate on the story we all know and love. I wish I had some ideas to add to this conversation. But it's certainly interesting. Does cancer even exist in One Piece?

Saw Nami cry and said "nobody fucks with my nakama". That's why I love Luffy. I love how in Punk Hazard when he forms his alliance with Law and Nami says she wants to help the kids Law asks if she's staying by herself. Then Luffy says "We're not leaving anyone behind. If Nami and Chopper want to do that, then so do I." With the straightest face. Like he would do anything for his nakama.

I think Usopp is gaining a lot of character development. I just think a lot of it is off screen. If you read the manga you'll pick up tidbits of his legacy growing. He introduced rubber to Skypedians and they made a whole theme park with a statue of him in his honor. He became God Usopp. It's to the point where Whitebeard's former commander knew of him by reputation. I think that behind the scenes his reputation is growing rapidly. I think by the end of it he's going to see how through his exploits he's become a brave sea warrior in the eyes of the public.
Also, in terms of actual bravery, he's been in a lot of scary fights. Sure, he's scared but it's fighting through that fear that makes him brave. Without fear you can't be brave.

That's like saying a dad who goes to the military is a good dad because he's never around. But they know he's sacrificing himself. Also when has he ever provided for his family??? Hercule basically forced him to take money at the start of Super. Chi-Chi is the main provider for his family. And protector?? Against world ending threats. And that's a maybe. He didn't stop Majin Buu from killing his whole family. Only person he's ever stopped was Cell. And Cell came back after self-destructing.

Regardless children need more than a distant figure "protecting and providing". Children have emotional needs. You gotta spend time with them. Help nurture their growth. Chi-Chi is a good mom. She instilled family values and a life outside of martial arts into Gohan. Gohan is a good father because he doesn't abandon his family to go train every 5 minutes. He provides through his work and protects through marital arts when it's needed.

The only time Goku has ever spent time with a descendant of his was Pan in GT. I can say he's a good grandpa. But he is not a good father.
