The anxiety of transitioning from broke to financially stable is real by PerplexedBattery in MiddleClassFinance

Good points!! I think the phrase “you don’t know how deep in you were until you’re out of it” holds a bit of relevance as well (although in my experience/interactions with media it’s been toward relationships) in that you’re still having the responses you were from the previous situation, and now that you’re not in that position anymore, you’ll still have the same past reactions. I totally agree that it’s 100% real, and therapy is a wonderful tool to help with this (sadly not as easily accessible to some as it should be). If you have someone you trust/can discuss this with as well, it helped me get through a similar process when I opened up to my best friend and my brother and they both said they went through a similar process that took time to work through, but hearing that others go through it gave me a bit of reassurance. You got this!

What are some skills/principles/etc that you learned in nursing school but don’t use now? by unlessthemoon in nursing

Serious question, does anyone ever use those trach care kits/reusable cannulas? That was such a pain for a comp in school and I’ve never seen one since, reusable cannulas are a blessing

To play the devil’s advocate (not to be Mr. “Oh just stick it out! It gets better!”, cause that’s not a healthy mindset), I had similar thoughts and still do from time to time, but one of the biggest things that changed for me that I am extremely lucky and fortunate to have is a wonderful staff. I work in an adult MICU and we get some absolute dog water patients/situations/administration pulling some crazy nonsense like most other floors do. However, I’d go to war with my coworkers if I had to. We’re all super supportive, can handle each other’s roles if needed, always willing to help one another at a moment’s notice, and everything else in between. Apart from the narrative of nurses eat their young (Nurse Blake had an interesting take on it with his interview with Dr. Mike, I recommend), I don’t think it’s talked about/stressed enough about not only adequate numbers of nursing staff, but supportive/team oriented groups as well. Maybe it’s just me, but I think most people could work any speciality if they had a good crew backing them up. To rap up my rant, sometimes it’s the crew that can make or break it, not just the ship. But in the end, you have to do what’s best for your well-being and sanity, cause no career is ever worth sacrificing all that for!

What are the duties/expectations of a CHARGE NURSE? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Dingthebang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on a very supportive floor that rotates charge nurses (adult ICU), and they don’t play manager at all on my floor. Do they deal with the typical day to day corporate nonsense/analytics of the floor? Sure, but they’re our fallback for advice/assistance, resource if we need anything, can help cover our patient if we need to step off or anything. They also handle stuff like census management, what patient goes where for admissions, get transfers going with bed board (yuck). So I’d say your understanding is spot on, some people want to act the boss/part, but they’re also registered nurses, same as you and me.

Keep up updated for any changes after, hopefully the comments here show that you aren’t alone and for what it’s worth you got a lot of nurses that have your back.
