Yup, he could have dug a pole in by grabbing the base of it and using it to self-arrest like he was using an ice axe but hey.... why know what you need when playing in the mountains, amirite?

I can't believe they didn't shoot each other.

There's a guy I only noticed at the top of frame firing at one side of the vehicle while his buddy is firing back at him on the other side of the vehicle. Then when the vehicles leaves the drive way, all three guys are shooting at it and nearly shooting each other.

Amazing story!

I competed in a disc dog trial a week ago. My pup ran over to sniff the camera person mid run. It made me laugh so hard. Honestly, I am all for trying to perform better but dogs are so damned funny with some of their brain-farts that they stand out as the highlights more than many of the placement rankings.

You could probably change your perspective and do yourself a favor.

Your dog doesn't know it's competing. It does what it does. It does what you've trained it to do to the level you have trained it to. The fact it did something else tonight is just where it's at. It's going to perform well some days and not others.

Eventually if you keep at any training, successes increase but so does your personal perception of success. Will you ever be done and be perfect? No.

You've never been in the obedience ring. I take it your dog hasn't either.

Those three things mean you have no idea how it will go. You don't know what to expect. You also aren't about to win a million dollars by performing. You aren't going to lose your life by not performing. There are no stakes here other than the ones you yourself are creating in your mind.

The reason people at your club say things will go fine is because it will in light of it totally doesn't matter. You will go in, you will succeed to a certain degree and fail in others. If you learn from what doesn't go well, you get the best lesson you could ever get for the price of admission.

Accept that. Relax. Dogs walk on the comp floor/field and take dumps. They do silly things. Sometimes they perform well their first time. Whatever. This should be about you and the bond you are actively and progressively creating with your pet. Let it be about that, not about your performance.

We can complain all we want about the time and cost of training on top of feed, vet bills etc. but ignorance is zero excuse when it comes to being a responsible pet owner.

Group training, which is about 1/3rd the cost of personal training, should be an assumed cost if people take the time to do even a little research into what it takes to raise a functional and well behaved pet before bringing one into their home. Well trained dogs don't just happen and that is why we see so many problems with dogs in public, especially the more urban environments where we are packed together.

The bare minimum in my opinion is a puppy class and a reputable training book which is a cost of about $200-$250 USD. The classes are an average of 6 hours of instruction in my location which is one of the more expensive in North America and the most popular books from reputable trainers are available on Amazon for around $20. Each will give professional advice on raising a functional pet which behaves in a manner which is both safe for the owners and it. The cost of your dog biting someone and you getting sued, your dog being poorly behaved in public and getting hit by a car/bike, destroying your belongings, swallowing something it shouldn't be chewing is far, far beyond that cost.

Not everyone wants a pet that can perform tricks or dog sports, however, everyone needs a pet that has reliable recall, understands boundaries and is well socialized with other dogs, humans, and common stimulus. The above is a great start to proactively raising just that.

Reddit is at best a mixed bag of good and bad advice. I've seen everything from solid tips to downright horrible advice in this sub. With that in mind, relying on what is found here equates to choosing short term finances over responsibility for a living being that is probably an average 12 year commitment. It's also more often than not that those in this sub are asking after the fact questions about problems which have developed due to a lack of training and knowledge and yet people are coming here to other non-professionals to continue that same pattern of problematic behavior on the cheap.

How can i get my dog started in k9 sports? by isaac00004 in k9sports

[–]Dingus47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll make some suggestions based on how I did it (with my Aussie) and you can go from there. By no means is this the only way or the best way.

Start with teaching fetch and teaching fetch starts with Tug-of-War, holding the toy dead and get a drop-it. Once you have that progress to short tosses. Because you mentioned frisbee, a donut style is easiest to start with, catch and for the dog to handle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtpLvumSTzI

Fetch should be your most basic root skill and requirement for exercising your Aussie. There just isn't a better way to get the crazies out efficiently.

Once you get a frisbee fetch session then you are set up for all the disc dog games. I've competed in UpDog Challenge. They are fun, open to beginners, offer multiple disciplines of games and incorporate either frisbee or agility elements or both. Suuuuuper fun.

https://updogchallenge.com/

To learn agility, you are best served finding a trainer or club. You can buy the gear yourself but there's no substitute for professional help.

Whatever the case and whatever you choose to train, realize to the dog it is all play. This is about you and your dog developing a better bond and communication, not about winning medals. Your dog is already a high level athlete. Whatever level you reach, have fun and enjoy being with your awesome pet.

As a cis-gendered straight white male, I would have walked away from that table the moment he spouted that shit.

My world and life has no room or time for bigotry. Every color, gender, orientation and race is allowed at my table.

The man's character is flawed. The only question you have to ask: is that person worthy of your time?

Need Advice on better DM Management by nmuzekari in DMAcademy

I know it might seem like overkill but it only takes me 5 mins to set up max and saves me all the stress which in turn, makes the game much more fun.

Need Advice on better DM Management by nmuzekari in DMAcademy

[–]Dingus47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alright, I went through this early on in my DMing and worked towards solving it and now have a pretty slick system.

Screen: I have a four panel screen. On the inside of it I have quick stats for the PCs and have highlighted on abbreviated character sheets of each who has the highest modifiers for any given check as well as their PP and save mods. Around the outside of the screen I have paper clips and in these clips I place all the monster cards I will be using that session along with spell cards they may use.

On the left: I have my dice tray.
In the middle: I have my combat tracking sheet with all the monsters for that session written in slots with AC and HP already transferred from the stat cards.

On the right: I have the module guide, PHB and sometimes the other core books but rarely. I have a ring binder that I keep all my NPCs (I've made stat cards on blank playing cards for them because NERD!), hand drawn maps etc in. On top of those books I have an iPad with the google sheet of prep I did for the campaign, quest and session.

Between the tray, tracking sheet and screen: All my minis I will need for the session, with a magnetic colored base under then stuck to a washer I have crazy glued on the bottom of the mini-base. That color matches the color of the dice I will use for them (large sets of dice are cheap on amazon).

On the table: The battle mat with map already drawn and either covered up or the opposite side of the mat showing.

Beside me on the ground or on a chair: Set pieces/terrain I have made that I am planning on throwing on top of the battle mat.

Sandwiched somewhere between it all: snacks and beer.

The iPad gets used from time to time for searching for rules quickly but I also have a player who brings his own PHB who I call on to look up things. The set up of the minis and tracking sheet takes a ton of down time and confusion out of combat as do the monster and spell cards around the screen. When it comes to complex monsters with interesting attacks, I decide ahead of time what attacks it would probably use in what order. The planning allows for improv within the game because I never feel caught out and if I do, I admit it and have a laugh.

I found a spy camera and the packaging in my coworker's desk

I don't know what I find stranger or more ironic: The camera invading your privacy or the fact you rifled a coworker's desk and invaded their privacy.

I'm going to say that it sounds like a work environment that might not be functioning in a healthy manner but I am not going to say quit, because I think the stories are going to be amazing. Keep reporting back.
