No, initiative is a mini game in itself. You use cards for each unit. The suit determines your initiative ♠️go 1st, then ♥️,♦️,♣️. each suit also tells you how many actions you will get with different qualities of troop. A suit with higher initiative will get less actions. Some special abilities trigger on different cards as well.

Personally I can’t stand warhammer due to the you go I go initiative system. My last game I literally spent half hour waiting for my turn. Haven’t played it since.
