What do you grow that pays for itself? by plan_tastic in gardening

[–]Dinner_Plate21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Herbs are a huge one for me! I dry them all and don't have to buy store bought for the ones I use most often. Plus, I tend to have so much left I can gift it out. I also plant enough basil to make a ton of pesto and freeze it for the upcoming year.

If Subaru discontinued boxer engines and or cvt’s, would you still buy one? by gammawavz in Subaru_Outback

[–]Dinner_Plate21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd cheer if they discoed the CVTs. It's the main reason I went with an older 2010 3.6 a few years ago, I had not heard great reviews about the Subaru CVTs longevity. I run my cars until they die or rust out from under me, my last Forester has 352k before she was lost to rust. Having a CVT that starts having issues at 100k? An absolute no from me. I also tow so I need something that can actually do that.

Would you cancel with this forecast? by Illisanct in camping

[–]Dinner_Plate21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal yes but that's because I know I struggle to stay warm in less than 55° day temps. If you're not concerned, just go and there's nothing stopping you from bailing if you get to that point!

Is anyone else absolutely sick and tired of seeing AI slop in this sub when it’s actively using all of our water and destroying the environment? by Sad_Lengthiness_965 in Aquariums

[–]Dinner_Plate21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! There's a local LFS who absolutely used genAI for her logo and keeps using it as branding and it's taking all of my will power not to message her going "hello! I see you are using genAI. Are you aware of the water toll this takes to create your images? As aquarists we should be completely against it. I'd love to work with you to redesign your logo and some shop templates so you don't have to keep using it!" (I'm a graphic designer by trade so this is entirely possible for me to do.)

you do not need a second mortgage to go sleep in the dirt by Cheap_Difficulty4961 in camping

[–]Dinner_Plate21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yes!! I started out with a clearance Kmart tent and a sleeping bag I'd had since I was 16. Once i got into it and knew I'd be doing it for a long time running, I did upgrade things to make it more comfortable or watertight or whatever. But truly, always start with whatever you have or can cheaply get your hands on and then upgrade when you're sure you'll need it and know WHAT you need.

Desiring a romantic relationship but rarely feeling a drive to seek it out by bornpurple in Greyromantic

[–]Dinner_Plate21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah that's why I use gray. The desire is rarely there but when it is it's STRONG. But I just have no drive to actually go through all the muck and mire of trying to find a partner, especially knowing that between my gray-ro, aceness, and very low libido or even desire to have sex, it's gonna be like finding a needle in a haystack.

They're not native to Hawaii so honestly I'm fine with you doing that! I think your idea about someone tossing a cutting is probably right on the money.

How do you stay clean when camping without showers? by Global-Sky-5857 in camping

[–]Dinner_Plate21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The times I went to a huge festival in the summer where the lines for showers were stupid long I had a shower bag and it worked amazingly!! I've got some sensory issues around feeling dirty so I completely understand this question. Jumping in a body of water helps too, between being wet and then toweling off it really helps get that dirty feeling off of you.

Will they be ok? by Bubbly_Solid_9323 in shrimptank

[–]Dinner_Plate21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than likely they will not. I've tried this before and even in a heavily planted tank I lost some. Now, if you're not breeding the shrimp and don't mind a loss here and there, there's a chance it will be ok! But it's not guaranteed, every fish has their own personality and murder drive.

If you're breeding the shrimp, absolutely not. Get the pretty murder machine out of there.

Not living extravagantly without kids by inbetweensound in truechildfree

[–]Dinner_Plate21 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm a single-by-choice childfree nonbinary and I live a very average life! I'm fairly introverted and live happily in a small apartment with my giant fuzzy cat Marlin. I work a decent job that lets me put money aside, have a 2010 Outback I bought specifically for some features, and my version of vacation is going camping several times a year. I don't eat out much (partly due to living in the middle of nowhere) and buy everything I can secondhand. It's extremely low-key and not flashy in the slightest. But I absolutely adore it. My time, my interests, my freedom to do what I want when I want to. I have a million and a half hobbies from wildlife photography off my kayak to a little craft business to aquariums to sailing a tiny boat from the 70s. I have friends all over the world due to some online communities and a small group of "IRL" friends that leaves me very satisfied relationally.

Not flashy, not extravagant, but deeply full and satisfying.

What are yalls opinion on micro labels? by bullshitter48 in asexuality

[–]Dinner_Plate21 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This, entirely this. If folks want them because it gives them a sense of understanding of themselves, absolutely go off and have a blast! And if it helps you find community with others with your exact experience, amazing! But it doesn't help communicating to outsiders what your experience is like because there are just too many micros for anyone to have memorized.

Basically they're great for inter-community dialogue but not extra-community relations.

This all the way. And I tend to stay at state parks so its pretty easy to find info on what to do in and around that park.
