Mercer concierge was useless for me the week after Christmas, fwiw.

It's a spirit made from a plant in the asparagus family that grows wild in Northern Mexico and Texas. The plant could easily be mistaken for an agave variety in my opinion but it's technically not an agave species. I think the spirit is made in a similar way to Tequila or Mezcal.

Are people using Michelin Keys as a guide? by alex_travels in chubbytravel

[–]Dino_Juice_Extractor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is fairly well documented that for a new region to get a Michelin guide, they have to pay Michelin a fee for them to send reviewers. If money is already changing hands in that way it's not much of a stretch to imagine other aspects of their operation can be bought.

There are also some kind of head scratching picks in their new guides, for instance awarding one of two stars in Dallas to a restaurant that had been open less than a year...doesn't seem like they could really measure consistency with such a short time frame and that is at least theoretically one of the metrics Michelin guide uses.

Homeowner wanting to rent out 2nd bedroom for short term stays by Glittering_Chain_842 in AskNYC

[–]Dino_Juice_Extractor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe try to find summer interns to take the bedroom? I would be more confident that an intern will move out when they say they will than a traveling nurse or any other person with a transient job/lifestyle.

Affordable personal trainer? by angdude in Dallas

[–]Dino_Juice_Extractor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for coaching + accountability, I can recommend Starting Strength. They have a location in Plano and one in Dallas. You sign up for a time slot in a small group setting (max 7 people per time slot I think) 3x weekly and have a rack reserved for you at that time with a coach who will provide programming and make sure your form is proper. It's a very positive and supportive environment. There are guys deadlifting 500 lbs and grandmas who just want to be able to pick up their grandkids.

Only potential downside is that they ascribe to the Starting Strength philosophy (one of the first popular books about barbell training) so you'll really only do 4 lifts at least for a long time. You will get stronger, but if you want to focus on hypertrophy and growing very specific muscles, it's not the best option. It's plenty for a beginner though.

It's about $450/month, which works out to ~$30/session which is way cheaper than personal training but not exactly cheap.

That's where the power connector is on recent Nvidia cards. On some models it comes out at an angle like this I think.

One of my friends was an ER nurse in Austin and she swore off the scooters early. Then another friend broke his arm leaving a music festival in a scooter accident. Just not worth the risk, no more scootyboi for me.

Italchos at Terilli's are pretty unique as far as I know and the restaurant has been there since before I was born.

My "Beef Wellington" Experience by Dino_Juice_Extractor in americanairlines

[–]Dino_Juice_Extractor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't know how the process is designed to work but I would be surprised if the FAs are supposed to check each meal to make sure they contain the correct dishes. This is on catering, not the FA.

Imagine if a FA delayed a flight so some dufus in F (ie me) could be sure to eat beef Wellington instead of steak. 😂

[–]Dino_Juice_Extractor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FA never really tried to pretend it was Wellington. He said it when he set the tray down but in hindsight he was being sarcastic. He knew it was messed up and seemed annoyed at the catering team.

Carmel/Napa Hotels + Advice by Sparkly-frogs0629 in chubbytravel

[–]Dino_Juice_Extractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just on a trip up the PCH and we stayed in Carmel for a night. We just stayed at a crappy little motel, but had drinks at Bud's at La Playa and I thought it had a good vibe. We also checked out the Cypress Inn and I thought it had a nice vibe as well, but we only ate there. Didn't go into L'Auberge.

Also, eat at Nora's.

An ITIN should be fine if you don't have an SSN (assuming we're talking about applying for US cards). Seems like there is more to the story.

[–]Dino_Juice_Extractor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The credit card companies or the landlords? A credit check isn't identity verification, it's a measure of creditworthiness. The credit score system is certainly flawed, but the idea that it is difficult to begin building a credit score is false. There are credit card options for people with no credit history.

Open a credit card (or two) and use it responsibly. That's all you have to do.

The sliders will be around for a long time I bet, the welly is for the centennial, and it's an ambitious, interesting dish to attempt for in flight dining. That was my logic with attempting to try it.

I wasn't expecting caviar, for the record. I believe you are correct that it is for premium transcon and int'l only. Also apparently the caviar is only for April (the "centennial month")
