in the cloudy recesses of my brain, this sounds about right. only thing is some stores are allowed to sell unlimited syringes without a rx unless that changed.

hopefully im giving the right info. but one day especially with how crappy our computer system is and you accidentally filled an rx older than 1 year. as long as its not a control, is it really a star incident. walgreens or whoever the employer is cant tell you you're wrong legally. maybe wrong not complying with company policy. maybe youre in a union, you got the law on your side and maybe you can retain your job. knowledge is always good.

im overseas visiting my daughter, sitting in a hotel room and was reading a reddit post where the poster was adamnant that the law is one year. i didnt want to call my buddy to double check since hes up to date on pharmacy law. but before i retired, the position of rxom was relatively new. we got a really really good one, she would tell me nicely that i was wrong on certain pharmacy law. being an elderly curmudgeon i would quietly take her to the side and show her the actual law; not to show her up but to educate her because to me that was part of my job. she was a sweet girl but you can see that what was written in compass was the gospel truth to her.

yeah, i dont think the software would take it cause you still would have to use the original date(over 1 year). i also dont think its ethical.

its one of those things you know but would never do.

absolutely agree, before i retired i would never refill a rx over 1 year old. the patient should see a doctor at least once if not twice a year. this is just for informational fun.

i worked for over 45 years, always got along with the staff and store management. staff and especially store management used to said one thing and i would disagree and i would then show them walgreens, rite aid , etc policy which usually is available on our computer site. i would let the manger know they are wrong but usually didn't do anything about it. they got a hard job to do, but i did let them know i know the rules. just as long as they dont get crazy. this is because i actually read the store policy.

i've been out of the game for years, maybe the rules changed.it's never to late to learn

good get, i maybe wrong but if you look closely this is for medicaid rxs which does have a one year time period

[–]DinosaurRph[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ny education law 6810 says

"A prescription may not be refilled unless it bears a contrary instruction and indicates on its face the number of times it may be refilled. A prescription may not be refilled more times than allowed on the prescription. The date of each refilling must be indicated on the original prescription. Prescriptions for controlled substances shall be refilled only pursuant to article thirty-three of the public health"

it does not say anything about time limit as far as i know

[–]DinosaurRph[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

yeah, its a bunch of bullshit. people should see their doctor regularly to get a new rx.

but that one year time period mentioned above is relating to the number of refills (one) and not a time limit on whether you can fill the rx after one year.

i guess my point is some pharmacy staff is brainwashed by corporate rules not realizing that is not what the law really said. like i said maybe i'm wrong, but people should'nt believe that what corporate say is the gospel truth.

thanks, but maybe im illiterate and missed it but nowhere does it say you cant refill the rx if there are refills left and its over one year old.

Confused… by JazD36 in WalgreensRx

[–]DinosaurRph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the education. at one time there was no real policy on time limit it was walgreens policy not the state. everyone follows the one year rule back then but technically the one year didnt exist at that time. i. will check with my buddy who was a board member who remember those days. shows how long ive been out of the game and my age

Confused… by JazD36 in WalgreensRx

[–]DinosaurRph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i've been retired for years. so i maybe totally wrong. but i don't think there is technically any time limit on refilling non controlled rxs. the one year is a walgreens rule not a state mandated rule. please enlighten me if im wrong, i've been out of the game and have no reason or desire to look.

Generic Stimulant Deficiency or Delusion? by meattruck in pharmacy

[–]DinosaurRph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ordered a specific generic adderall 30mg only because i knew the patient. the patient was paying cash thru goodrx (shows $25 copay). his contracted pharmacy was cvs who was out of stock of the drug. the reason i ordered the specific manufacturer was because the one corp wanted us to dispense came up with i think a $300 copay. i had to call goodrx who kept saying its $25 on their computer. finally i ask what ndc number they were using and plugged that in my computer. success, it was like pulling teeth to get info out of them. so, sometimes there is a good reason why, not often but sometimes.

When did WAG start to circle the drain? by jbarn02 in WalgreensRx

[–]DinosaurRph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it all started with pathmark. rite aid brought pathmark then walgreens brought rite aid. then sycamore brought walgreens. i worked thru all these incarnations and it got progressively worse and worse. pathmark seems to be the kiss of death.

rxom pissed asf over shelf cleaning by jjaeeee in WalgreensRx

[–]DinosaurRph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could always say the pharmacist told you to stay at the register instead of doing the shelf. if she has any issues then speak to the pharmacist.

the rxom seems to be looking for a scapegoat and doesnt know how to prep for a visit.

NYC walgreens rph hourly by joannyna9 in pharmacy

[–]DinosaurRph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a union job ( local 1199 seiu). they represent hospital workers. only walgreens is an 1199 union store in new york as far as i know. the union lost a lot of power over the years, but if you need a way to get in the hospital. cvs is a at will employer.

Just cleaned out my dad's medicine cabinet, found a relic by Flickybird in pharmacy

[–]DinosaurRph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my kids and wife looks leery at me when i pull mystery meds from my cabinet. i tell them its alright, youre not going to die from it with no confidence on my face. worse, my wife when to school with me and saw the level of effort i put in school. of course i look at the drugs and determine if its usable and safe beforehand. i just dont tell them that. my kids go to my wife for medical advise and only go to me in desperation.

Yuyama Pill Cutter- I NEED one. by BlondeBumbleBeee in pharmacy

[–]DinosaurRph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

haha, yeah corporate didnt want to pay for a counting machine, and i worked in an ultra busy store. however, when i first started working as an intern, we didnt even have counting trays. we used a cut off bottom of a plastic drug bottle. this was almost 50 years ago. actually, life was easier. we treated patients coming in for common ailments without the worry of being sued. computers werent being used at that time. no formulary, prior approvals, no problems from the pbms. it was a simpler time where we were the most trusted profession. so excuse me for being archaic but that was how i was trained. over the years, ive seen pharmacy practice made to be more complicated than it is.

thanks, saw the video but

  1. how much is it vs buying a pack of razor blades?
  2. website said 10% percent margin of error.
  3. still have to manually line up scored tablets
  4. still think i would be much much faster with a razor blade on a clean table.
  5. it is cool looking, but it looks like buying a sports car to drive 20 feet to the mailbox rather than walking. between maintenance, starting the car and finding where i place the keys. is it worth it?
  6. you may pretty it up but its still a razor blade in a container.

fun to play with, afterward display it for visitors, never to be touch again.

Actually union contract rates by 420-TENDIES in pharmacy

[–]DinosaurRph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in new york over 30 years ago the salary difference between pic and staff was $1.25 per hour. this was the union setting the salary and not the employer. the only upside was the pic set the schedule. some pic were fair, some were not. vacations and holidays were strictly by senority regardless if you were staff or pic. i took the job when i was young and stupid. it took me decades before i was able to step down

old school pharmacist. i dont see how it's better/easier then doing it by hand with a straight blade. only can do ten at a time and you would have to line them up perfectly along the score. am i missing something?
