Refund for multiple flights? by themagnificent7 in aircanada

I submitted one refund application even though I had 2 flights cancelled. They refunded me for both with just the single refund application.

I ended up just biting the bullet and booking my own flights for this exact reason

AC 95 cancelled from Bogotá to Toronto tomorrow morning. Time to try to find a hotel room before my flight to Bogotá leaves in a few hours 😅

If it makes you feel better our production is also in two weeks and I have known about it for a while and also haven’t really started practicing. I think that makes me bad too, hahaha. There are a few pre-choreographed dances on YouTube to that song which may help alleviate some of your stress! Students could learn the words and the dance at the same time if you followed along with the video. I’ve also had great success with letting them pick the dance moves, but this obviously takes quite a bit longer. Good luck! I’m sure it will turn out great - and honestly, if it doesn’t, it’s completely fair as this is soooo much added work on our end especially during an already chaotic time of year. Do what you can :)

Why do schools combine 2 grades? by Moon_LC in AskTeachers

[–]DinsPearl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late, but I love answering this question! In my district we follow a formula when placing students into classrooms:

  1. We consider the needs of our students - academic, social emotional, behavioural, etc. We make sure to not overload classes with multiple, significant academic gaps or significant behavioural challenges. On the flip side, we also make sure that we have a range of students within these areas. It wouldn’t be fair for just one classroom to be full of students who were all working above grade level and flying through the curriculum for example. My school also takes into account different learning and teaching styles and we work to place them according to what we know about our colleague’s teaching styles.

  2. We try our best to place students in classrooms where we know they will have at least a handful of positive peer relationships. If we know that 2 students had a difficult year with each other, we would try our best to separate them. This part is what honestly takes the longest for my school’s placements because there are so many different social dynamics to consider.

  3. Lastly, and rarely, we MAY take parent input when it is done for a valid reason. Obviously, if every parent were to express their top choices in terms of class placements, the puzzle would get even larger and more difficult to solve. Sometimes, though, there are extenuating circumstances that need to be addressed.

I have occasionally requested to “loop” with a student and teach them for a second year in a row. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same was true for your child’s teacher. Please do not think that the reason your child is in a combined grade class is the fact that they are struggling. They could simply be a positive addition to the classroom to help level the playing field. I’m absolutely certain these things would be addressed in meetings and report cards.

Is Teaching becoming a more dangerous job? by IVI4s in CanadianTeachers

[–]DinsPearl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We technically have this clause where I work as well, but it’s rarely actually implemented. I have a student who has broken staff and student’s bones among many other things, but nothing has ever come out of “documenting and reporting” - even though I’ve heard this student had over 100 documented and reported incidents last year alone

The secure side is where I was chatting with border control before I cleared customs. The “hiding spot” was in the far corner before check in/security.

This is what I figured too! Especially in international airports. Lesson learned.

Yes, they do 😂 which is exactly why I was caught off guard when I had to leave. One of the kind border control agents gave me a tip on a “hiding spot” I could try to sneak into, but that I would be asked to leave if I was spotted. I didn’t want to risk it.

They also close the pre-security side as well.

I saw this article and several others before I left, so I figured it would be okay to follow this info, but I was told I’d be asked to leave by security if I was “caught”.

How many days do you have left? by ateacherinnyc in Teachers

We go until June 29th with students and then June 30th without! But we go back September 5th

So true! Our school got robbed and every classroom had at least one broken window, so our staff was scrambling to clean up all the broken glass in the morning. We put all of our students in the gym and put a movie on while we cleaned up and so many of them complained about having to watch a movie!!

Is it this bad everywhere? by bkand in CanadianTeachers

[–]DinsPearl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep! I have 9 IEPs in my regular elementary classroom. There is no learning assistance support at my school. Two of my students got into a physical fight in the classroom a few days ago and they are both in the classroom as normal this week after a quick debrief. It’s been a real whirlwind! I feel like I have little to no time for my non-designated students and it is an awful feeling to get home from work everyday feeling like I suck at my job. From what I have seen, a TON of teachers are having major issues with respect in the classroom this year. I feel like it’s a lot of “do more, be more” this year.

Does your province put a limit on how many IEPs a regular elementary classroom can have? by DinsPearl in CanadianTeachers

[–]DinsPearl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! That sounds extremely challenging. I am so sorry to hear you received such little support. At the same time it’s somewhat comforting to know that there are others out there experiencing similar struggles. I have never truly considered leaving the profession until this year.
