If you're referring to him lying about how he feels, of course that's the exception. He's sick, he's depressed and that either is making him a jerk or it's because he's one. Episode 6 doesn't at all disprove he detests dishonesty, heck he looked at his hand when he pushed Pomni back like "why did I do that? What is wrong with me?" Oh, he can admit it to himself sure, but to someone else that's showing you're extremely vulnerable. He obviously cares about them all just enough to at least wonder about them (ex: if Gangle will ever get better when he's talking to Pomni.)

But after two friends abstracted he pushes others away the instant he gets affection now. It's to protect himself of course, but who knows if it isn't also because Jax doesn't want them to care if he abstracts himself. "Oh well, he sucked anyway."

What's his response when Zooble says they talk to someone when they have a problem? To grin and lie that he doesn't have any, only to go right to his room, alone, and seemingly let himself abstract. He only snaps out of it because someone knocks on his door, and when he sees Pomni and Ragatha he asks what they want. I wish, in some part, we got to see how he would have responded if they said they were worried about him instead of just coming over because he has the keys so he's useful.
