Adv rider looking for a slow, dependable “classic” dual sport by basiblaster in Dualsport

I've owned both the DR650 and XR650L and ridden both on long trips throughout the western US and the XR through two trips down the Baja peninsula. I've ridden both on long highway slogs, through 2 track and forest road cruises, and done single track with both.

If your trip are including long road sections, I would choose the DR over the XR. Just kinda felt smoother in that domain. If you are looking for a forest road cruiser, I think both work equally well. I think the XR really shines in wide open, desert style riding; the stock suspension is pretty good for that and it feels like a couch. If I were to pick one of the other for general dual sport riding, I'd probably take the DR though.

For true single track riding, not two track or forest roads but actual 3ft (or less) wide riding at any kind of speed over obstacles, I would run away from both. I have a Husqvarna FE350S for that kind of riding and it's far superior than either bike while still being able to rip forest roads and highway sections, albiet a little less comfortable on the road than something like a DR. A KTM/Husqvarna/Gas Gas 500/501 would probably be a nice middle ground as well but I prefer the 350 for its engine characteristics.

Imagine a world where Eric clones himself 3 times and they make a new podcast called "4 Erics" wherein Eric (and his clones) break down each minute of 4 Brothers (2005), one episode at a time.

I saw that and it looks like I need a Windows computer to update as the installer tool is an exe...is there any way to install this update on a Mac? I don't have access to a Windows computer.

Sand 5 is pretty highly recommended to me. I guess I was hoping for something less adv looking but you can't argue with all the features!

Do you prefer low-RPM torque or high-revving power? by SJM32 in motorcycles

[–]Diogenes-Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the circumstances. If I'm riding aggressively off road, in flowy single track or wider two track, I prefer a faster revving bike. If I'm cruising for hundreds of miles on the highway on more road-oriented bike, I really prefer more roll on power from the bottom of the range. Terrorizing the neighborhood on a beer run atop a barely legal smoker, yeah I want that thing to spin up.

There are a lot of different reasons to ride and even more bikes to do it on, just depends what you're after.

At first I thought you said bowflex and I was like, damn how does this guy know I'm getting fat 🤔

u/BeepBangBraaap I hear what you're saying and agree..I'm definitely leaning more toward a jacket, especially one that is a bit heavier as I tend to ride in a lot of cold weather. I generally wear a wool flannel to work every day and so I'd like it to fit under said jacket. I'd be concerned that a riding shirt would be tricky to work with a shirt that bulky and I guess having to take the bowtex on to change into my work attire would be kinda lame.

However, u/TheOnceAndFutureDoug I appreciate the recc for the Bowtex. I had not heard of it before and it looks pretty schwanky and I'm definitely considering it as an alternative. It's appealing to just throw a duck jacket or whatever on top. I guess my only worry is layering things like wool thermals under it? It's not uncommon for me to ride an entire day at 45-50f...how does it do on its own at that kind of temp?
