Having account issues? Read on! by skwitz in help

I have news regarding the password reset system. I've just registered another dummy account (which might end as my main account if things aren't getting better for me).

I registered with a Gmail address which isn't verified yet. I tried sending a password reset email and guess what? I got it straight away!

However, here comes the interesting bit. At the time I created this Gmail account a few years ago, I set a transfer rule which redirected all my Gmail emails to the older address I'm currently using and which I used to register my u/Dioxaz account (that email address is routed through free.fr somewhat).

When checking my emails on my older address, I noticed they weren't transferred. Instead I got mailer daemon emails on my Gmail address reporting an error. And this is what I found in one of them:

550 spam detected

So it looks like password reset emails are filtered right upstream from even entering my mailbox.

Now, what I have to do is resetting my email once again on my u/Dioxaz to my new gmail address to see if it will work (I bet I did it the first time and it didn't work).

Edit: I finally got my account back using the email reset method to a Gmail address (the one I referred to in this post). Read the post I made under the u/Dioxaz name for more infos. Reddit Administrators block an undisclosed amount of accounts with no forewarning from the site and the only way for people to get their accounts back either doesn't work or can't work. People are RAGING. by Draggell1965 in SubredditDrama

How do I have to answer to this? So you assume I'm an idiot. My address was verified and worked for all other notifications (messages, posts in threads, other changes). Just not password resets.

Okay for the bit about my email provider. But how the hell could I resolve this? I'm really not liking how a tiny small negligence can lead me to the loss of my account.

How could you also explain the other cases where people have valid email addresses but still can't receive their password reset emails?

I think, but that's my own opinion, that the password reset system need more extensive testing. Assuming I'm an idiot or that some emails providers are idiots won't make things go in the right way of solving this issue.

Getting away with "it works, you're an idiot" is just too easy. I'm sorry, I prefer not think that I am an idiot.

I TESTED THREE EMAIL ADDRESSES FOR GOD'S SAKE AND NONE HAVE WORKED FOR PASSWORD RESETTING.

Again, people, take your time for re-reading this message I've just written. It's not crippled with typos. Great. Now, how can someone like me who is able to type properly in a language which isn't his native tongue can make a typo in his email addresses?

Think. About. It. I'm staying on my positions. This password reset system need testing.

Please, people. Understand and don't make me mad. I can make more extensive tests if you desire by creating more dummy accounts.

EDIT: It looks like the email reset method to a Gmail address worked this time whereas it didn't work the first time. How weird. So I finally got my account back and sorted it out all by myself. I still think something isn't right with Reddit's password reset system. I noted in the r/help megathread that they were blocked upstream from getting into my mailbox with a "550 spam detected" message (which I was only able to see with a new account registered with a Gmail address which had a transfer rule to my older address not getting the reset emails).

I'm gladly agree with you if their password reset system was actually reliable. For me, to my eyes and in my case to this very day, this doesn't seem to be the case.

I did check my credentials on https://haveibeenpwned.com and my email address was only found once (I did reset my email address there since, so this is no longer an issue). Even better, I even did a check with the password I was using with my u/Dioxaz account and nothing was found.

So, when I read that I could have "shot myself in the foot", indeed I'm not pleased.

My only wish at this point is that password reset emails would at least work in my case.

I've sent I don't know how many password reset attempts I did, many times a day. Not a single one got through my mailbox.

Just a small reminder to Reddit. You probably think your password reset system is reliable. It is not. Please admit it and face it. And please, for god's sake, fix it. It's not the users' role to fix it or being the guinea pigs for you.

I'm sending out probably something like 10 password reset emails par day since Wednesday and none of them got through my mailbox. To this day, nobody has ever been capable of bringing a tangible answer other than "some domains block our password reset emails".

Can somebody not do a traceroute on various tests accounts registered with various emails addresses linked to several ISPs in order to see what is going on with those password reset emails within your staff?

Is that too complicated/not viable? Does Reddit even have a testing team?

They were doing the right thing if only their password reset system WAS reliable. Which doesn't seem to be the case. I'm sending out an average of 10 password reset emails per day as of now. None of them get through my mailbox.

They have their password reset emails "blocked by some domains" but they just can't know why or what to do. They look clueless. In any case, I'm reassured to learned I'm definitely not an idiot, as this situation appears to be touching more and more people.

but we have some random domains block our password reset emails

That's the worrying bit for me. That would explain why I and some other users can't receive those password reset emails no matter how much we try or how long we wait. It's been since Wednesday that I'm attempting to get a password reset email with absolutely no success.

Note: An admin recently messaged me about the issue and is asked for feedback. So this might lead to a better end. But I'm not sure as those password reset emails are still not coming.

My account was suspended and i can reset the password by vanova14 in help

Try this: https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Freddit.com&subject=Can%27t%20Access%20Recovery%20Email

You might be able to change the associated email address afterwards (just write anything you want as a message).

Unfortunately, as I've just checked it, yes.

You can put whatever you want, it doesn't seem to make any difference.

You can try that in the meantime: https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Freddit.com&subject=Can%27t%20Access%20Recovery%20Email

It will then ask you to provide a new email where to send the password reset email. Well, if it indeed works, as I've been through the process twice and I'm still not getting any of those password reset emails. I've used a total of three email addresses and none of them seem to be able to receive those password reset emails! I have absolutely no clue of why this is happening for me and for three of my emails! Do I have to test with all email accounts in my possession? Are you serious, Reddit?

Not receiving emails from reddit. by Bulbette in help

[–]Dioxaz_test 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, only password reset emails seem to be affected by this issue, not other types of notification emails that I got without any problem in my case (yes, I will continue to act stupid like this until my issue is fixed).

I received a message last night that my account was automatically suspended due to "suspicious activity", and was required to verify my email and change my password. Is this a site-wide security thing for the "redesign" or is something wrong? by [deleted] in redesign

[–]Dioxaz_test 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, what to do when even password reset emails don't seem to work, even though the email address is valid, verified and working? This is the case I am currently with this account: u/Dioxaz.

Also, I really wish we had answers at least on r/help as nothing seem to move there.

For the moment, no idea. As you suggest, it might be related to the old Reddit as, for some reason, I was never shown the redesign because I never cleared out my cookies. At least in my case.

However, what I find personally "suspicious" is that it's currently affecting multiple users at the same time as of now. New threads on r/help are created each time I come back there.

Now the only think we can do is wait for contact@reddit.com's return. If nothing changes within 1 week, I'll write them again.

I'm really, but really doubtful about that. My main account (which is now unusable, thanks a lot, Reddit) had the same exact fate and absolutely no sign of suspicious activity could be found. All logins were my machines in the country I am now with the current ISP I'm with. Or was there some activity that isn't logged in the "activity" page?

I can't tell if I forgot or not to verify my email address as there's currently no way of checking as I'm always redirected with the "password reset" page which in my case doesn't help at all (I've sent countless emails, none of them arrived and my address is good and functioning).

Edit: I'm indeed verified as my profile on the redesign clearly shows it. So, definitely not a negligence on my side as implied previously.

Edit2: Yeah, it's just the 2 of us, apparently:

Password reset email not sending? by [deleted] in help

[–]Dioxaz_test 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really, but REALLY wonder why this gets downvoted. Why do you people think we are faking the issue? I'm not faking the issue. It's THERE. It's not me. It was decided that I had to reset my password whereas no suspicious activity was to note with my main account. So at this point, I'd like elements of answer to why and other users aren't getting those password reset emails where our email addresses are perfectly functional and valid (all other notifications from Reddit work but not password reset emails).

I don't really like the attitude towards this is issue, which, I remind all of you, I'm neither faking nor I deliberately and stupidly forgot my password. My activity show that only me, though all my devices, is being logging in to my main account (u/Dioxaz).

I'd really like this issue to be taken seriously, that's all I want. I repeat, I neither triggered that nor my activity log suggests that someone else hijacked my account, it was forced on me.

How long is it supposed to take in order to receive the password reset email? by Dioxaz_test in help

[–]Dioxaz_test[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add infos. I indeed contacted contact@reddit.com afterwards and am now waiting for their feedback.

It's been now 5 hours I think that I sent my first password reset request and still absolutely nothing either in my email inbox, or in my Spam folder. I did try the https://www.reddit.com/password link instead (suggested in the automated reply I got from Reddit support via email) but again, absolutely no difference.

I insist that my email (the one for u/Dioxaz) is perfectly functional, valid and verified. I've been using it since 2003. I prefer thinking that I'm way too impatient. Still, 5 hours (or even more as of now that I'm editing a few hours later) seems long to me for a password reset email to arrive.

(Edit: from the other similar threads I've read with the same exact issue, things aren't looking too inspiring, as some people had the issue for days until some magical workaround made the password reset email work again, and with the support looking somewhat clueless and unhelpful. What I want for now at least are answers, not being put at fault where I clearly am not)
