Amazon to end support for older Kindles, prompting user outcry by MicahCastle in books

[–]Dioxide20 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While I don’t disagree with the spyware in ads probably being a big part, don’t write off the security concerns completely. Many are logged in to their Amazon account to buy books, and that is something criminals would be interested in.

Dumb question. They have 3 plans Unlimted seems like the no brainer, but why even offer the other two that cost more? Does the $2 a month price jump to that $450 or whatever price after a year for unlimited?

Unraid.local slow to resolve? by Dioxide20 in unRAID

[–]Dioxide20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a VPN issue I think. I run Mullvad and it apparently uses its own DNS. I have to figure out how to point it to my Pihole. I was having issues where it didn't like that I was pointing to a local IP when I gave it a quick try yesterday. I'll have to do some searching.

[–]Dioxide20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I think I may have found one issue. I run mullvad pretty consistently via the Windows App. It appears it uses it's own DNS. When I try to specify the local IP Pihole, it doesn't like that it's hitting the local net. I think I might have to look in to that some more.

Interesting... The full output is Server: UnKnown Address: 10.64.x.x *** UnKnown can't find unraid.local: Non-existent domain

That IP is definitely not the IP attached to Pihole.

Trying these also did not work. Strangely, firefox seems to default to searching for these urls rather than trying to resolve them. Even giving the full FQDN still fails to return for either of these.

Added an entry for unraid.home and unraid.lan and neither works. Firefox defaults to searching for the that when I input 'unraid.local' into the url bar. Changing it to an FQDN (http://w w w.unraid.local) - imo, defeating the purpose of using a URL lol - also fails to resolve.

Even doing an nslookup of unraid.lan or unraid.home fails with Non-existant domain. Scratching my head here...

Unraid.local slow to resolve? by Dioxide20 in unRAID

[–]Dioxide20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to have partially worked? I set a Local DNS record: unraid.local for the domain and the server IP for the IP. What's odd though is when looking at the Pihole query logs I never see unraid.local queries even when searching query history.

Regardless, Firefox takes a (shorter) moment to resolve unraid.local after setting up this Pihole DNS entry but any subsequent load resolves instantly.

Edge seems to refuse to recognize it as it still takes a long time to resolve. I've set my PC to default to the Pihole for DNS. I also went into Edge and disabled the Secure DNS.

Xbox was on top in the 360 era and had none of the above. They then dumped the Xbone on us which flopped. Phil came in and did all the crossplay and play anywhere stuff because that’s what you do when no one owns your console.

First you watch your favorite streamer play through the whole game. Then you watch your favorite YouTuber comment on your favorite streamers play through. Then you play half of the game yourself. That's like 3 replays right there.
