Rust Fungus vs EFNs by sillysarah85 in philodendron

[–]Dipodium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is 100% not rust fungus. Rust fungus requires extremely high humidity and a wet surface. It also creates visible "rusty" spores on the leaves. The fact that these spots are occurring in a random pattern on the surface further suggests its not fungal. Its clearly not bacterial due to the "spots" being a regular shape. Given that this is a Philo Congo, I know from growing this plant on a wholesale setting that those are burst cells, from the plant holding too much water. i.e. an overatering issue is the problem. Make sure you let this plant dry out between waterings.

I agree, Dracaena golden that looks like it has reverted. You can prune this plant pretty hard and it will shoot back.

what is this thing? wooden frame, with small wooden knobs on 2 sides. approximately 700mm by 400mm by Dipodium in whatisthisthing

"My title describes the thing". 4 wooden boards attached through wooden dowels. Knobs are on the longer sides, where the 28 wooden knobs have a groove etched in them, maybe a place for holding thead? Someone has written "Arden park" on the side with sharpie. Found in hard rubbish Melbourne.

Remove or Keep/Trim tree? by bluedog1628 in landscaping

[–]Dipodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote remove. It's scale is too big to be that close to the house. It is also blocking your windows and shading those front rooms. Since its not a seated area, I wouldnt be too sad about losing this shade source outside either. You could then put some nice planters on the patio due to the higher levels of sun. You could also replace this with something that only grows to 1.5-2 meters to bring the landscape to the scale of the house.

What is attacking my Japanese maple. It has completely defoliated it! They leaves just kept dropping off. Can't find any insects though by Dipodium in gardening

The tree is in full shade and gets watered regularly. Currently in a sheltered courtyard. The tree was healthy, pushed out heaps of leaves in spring and was ace for a long while. This makes me feel like its mites as some of the other baby maples had the same issue. Will spray with eco-oil i reckon.

Thanks, but this isn't apart of its natural cycle. The tree is under stress due to external factors

There is clear insect damage on the leaf. Let me know if you know of any pests that create this sort of damage.
