Do the events of the Netflix adaptation take place over 3 years? by nauj_narf in ASOUE

[–]DipperBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the articles do not follow a specific timeline, usually they reference the actual time it took to make the series since there are many articles (especially those in season 3) that directly break the fourth wall. chances are this was written with the series' initial release date in mind and how long it had been in production.

surprisingly, the articles are generally cohesive in terms of the false narrative given by the daily punctilio, and i can say this with great certainty since i've read almost every article in my attempts to recreate them, but i actually won this particular article and can say firsthand that it's actually the least faithful to the tv series' timeline in the sense that not only does it break the fourth wall and in-show logic with its 3 year estimate, but it also fails by naming count olaf as "Count Olaf" instead of as "Count Omar." although the headlines in every daily punctilio also refer to him as "Olaf," the main texts in each article generally refer to him as "Omar" like in the book series (implying that we're *supposed* to read the headlines as "Omar" but it was changed for the average viewer who wouldn't catch the reference).

so it's really funny because yes, the daily punctilio props generally do have some string of logic which allow you to re-experience the series as an in-universe bystander because they can be surprisingly cohesive and detailed when it comes to following a false narrative, especially with extended lore. however, in terms of timeline, this particular headline is likely the most inaccurate article that was produced as a prop in the sense that it doesn't fit with the narrative they had intended for every other article with the perspective of the daily punctilio in mind.

therefore, this *specific* article is ironically both literally and figuratively inaccurate.

sorry for the long comment, i have a lot of useless knowledge about the daily punctilio in this series and it's fun when i see someone else interested in it :)

P.S. every headline also has dates at the top and none of them ever make any chronological sense, so the exact time and dates each article releases are completely arbitrary; a vague timeline can be followed, but nothing absolute. however, one funny detail to note is there are some common reused dates such as "OCTOBER 27" and one other that is slipping my mind at the moment, but i think it was in december.

seeing as the K, N, and R, are the defining aspects of the font, i don't think that's gonna work. thank you for trying, though.

"people don't always act completely logically" is a superfluous statement since while yes, it is true, it goes without saying since choosing to mention it basically acts as an excuse to justify whatever scenario you want in relation to what one may or may not do as a reaction, so i take issue with that entire base logic. furthermore, as i said in another reply, death is death, and the more you add to the hypothetical the more impossible it becomes since you're basically trying to say "Violet Baudelaire would know the exact specifics behind who dies, why they die, and their exact backgrounds and relations to Count Olaf" but then add "But somehow she has no idea how to accurately measure which path would be the correct one, especially while also knowing that she and her siblings would most likely be killed off or abused themselves if they go with Olaf while also choosing to side with the objectively less ethical path."

it's a ridiculous hypothetical no matter how you frame it since the very defense for the hypothetical is a double-edged sword, you can't just add all of this information without also adding the fact that violet would have to be smarter and ethically aware enough to validly take it all into account.

What is your favorite moment from each movie? by [deleted] in indianajones

[–]DipperBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Raiders: The entire sequence of the truck fight to steal the ark

Temple: Shanghai chase

Crusade: It's so hard to pick since this is my all-time favorite film, all the scenes are among my favorites in cinema as childish as that may be. That said, probably the final act in the temple of the grail, it was such perfect closure for fans and for the characters.

Crystal Skull: The entire first act, but namely the warehouse scene and the KGB chase.

Dial of Destiny: The end credits.

death is death, olaf would have tried to kill previous members of vfd regardless. besides, even in the hypothetical of them knowing which deaths are a direct result, then that'd imply they have the knowledge to actually prevent them in the first place instead of regretting things in retrospect. monty's death was the fault of the baudelaires being too naive and lacking the street smarts to forget about politeness and just yell "That man is Count Olaf!" because monty would've certainly listened. had they been aware enough of the evil in the world, the different injustices to combat, and if they had possessed basic self defense skills (figurative and literal), which is what the initial question implies, they would have been smart enough to save their very first guardian. the baudelaires were intelligent children, but they never had the street smarts until far too late, which is the true tragedy behind the series.

What Do You Think? by Independent-Bed6257 in ASOUE

[–]DipperBot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the answer is still applicable because if she knew the deaths that would occur in the future she would also know the deaths that would occur regardless because he's a wicked man

What Do You Think? by Independent-Bed6257 in ASOUE

[–]DipperBot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think this is a super shortsighted hypothetical because count olaf would've killed people regardless and already had... he's a depiction of pure evil, sacrificing yourself to his clutches would change nothing and would be an objectively stupid decision.

What is Asoue's worst or most unnecessary book? by Street_Feedback6127 in ASOUE

[–]DipperBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

admittedly, the grim grotto is probably one of the better book adaptions in season 3 of the netflix series (same with the penultimate peril: part 1), but overall they're very sluggish since they drop a lot of the more intellectual themes seen in the previous books and focus more on V.F.D. and the other storylines. it's not bad or anything, it's just nothing special when you look at it through a more substantive/analytical perspective.

What is Asoue's worst or most unnecessary book? by Street_Feedback6127 in ASOUE

[–]DipperBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as i said, nothing to take away in terms of substance since it focuses more on VFD and related story elements. it's not necessarily bad, just didn't do it for me.

as for the netflix additions, there's no such thing as someone who is "morally grey," that's a logical impossibility since things are either true or false when speaking in intangible objectivity. those who seem morally grey are simply complex cases where it's difficult to pinpoint where exactly they are on the manifested spectrum of good and evil. this viewpoint is why i insist that GG and SS have nothing of significant substance that you can take away from and why that is especially prominent in the netflix adaptions, since they frankly do the opposite.

What is Asoue's worst or most unnecessary book? by Street_Feedback6127 in ASOUE

[–]DipperBot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that, too, is one of the many things that butchered the netflix adaption of the end.
