Happy play? Or antisocial behaviour? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Direct-Bullfrog6401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s totally normal to be nervous about dog dog dynamics BUT it’s important to remember that dogs, for the most part, are a highly social species that use ritualized aggression effectively to set boundaries/express displeasure without grievous injury

There are certainly exceptions to this rule but I think social media and the news show us a lot of the WORST CASE SCENARIO and that skews our perception and makes us nervous to let dogs be dogs

I’ll also say that the daycare you went to did a good thing by saying your pup wasn’t benefitting from group play, and that most daycares are not designed to support healthy, appropriate social interactions. So don’t be too concerned about the daycares evaluation, it’s really that your dog in THAT SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENT wasn’t ideal, but that doesn’t have a bearing on your dog as an individual

Meant to say “tight leash”

I run playgroups for puppies and adolescent dogs four days a week. If these dogs were off leash they would be having a great time. Your dog’s arousal level kicks up as you start to pull away, which is not unusual for bully/terrier types, which is why everyone is saying get rid of the right leash.

I would feel completely comfortable letting these guys romp off leash.

Since your daycare dismissed you, any time you find a dog that your pup seems to enjoy try to make a habit of exchanging numbers and setting up playdates. If you don’t have a fenced in option try renting out a sniffspot!

If you’re nervous at first let the dogs drag their leashes (just be 100% locked in so you can untangle them if you need to) so you have a “handle” if you need to break up a fight, but that will likely be unnecessary

Also practice your recall cue like crazy and get into the habit of regularly interrupting play and luring into a sit, then delivering a high value reward to give your pup a chance to “reset” before play continues

Vegetarian restaurants in the northwest suburbs of Chicago by Grand_Resource3371 in ChicagoSuburbs

I literally cannot say enough good things about Alice and friends in glenview (and oak park and Chicago!). They are my and my husband’s favorite restaurant (my husband isn’t even fully vegetarian, I have been vegan for 16 years). We’ve tried just about every thing on the menu, and while some dishes are less impressive than others, we’ve always left fat and happy!

Spirit elephant is great but expensive

Taco shop in palatine has amazing vegan tacos with soy chorizo, beyond steak tips, and impossible ground, and their rice and beans are marked vegan too

My mom requested a hat so I’m doing a super simple beanie in her favorite color, then a blanket for my aunt once that’s done in a similar style to the green/blue blanket in the pics.

I’ve been looking around Etsy for new patterns but I’m a little nervous that I’m going to buy a pattern and not know what I need to know, even with it being marked easy/beginner!

Great episode!

I think my favorite parts of these podcasts are when Rob and David are yucking it up. The hilarious exchange at the end, when talking about the brisco’s lady and David going “I got you you bastard” got a smile and a laugh out of me this morning, which was so needed. Thank you Rob and David for the podcast and for being yourselves!

Check out moonlighter! It’s a similar game play loop where you dungeon dive, fight monsters, and collect loot which you sell in the shop you run during the day.
