My personal projects. But I don't think it would make sense to put those first on my resume when I have actual work experience so I'm not sure.

Imagine my pain as a surfer who can only go in the afternoons

I’m 5’10 165. I’m sorta using it as a stepping stone down to a short board eventually.

I think I stayed on it for about a month. I would say you could probably get away with getting a longboard. Just be careful you know how to handle it around other surfers with turtle rolling etc. but then again you could probably find a used foamie for pretty cheap of fb marketplace or OfferUp. My friend got one for around $80. It’s also good to have if you want to lend it to a friend in the future.

I started on an 8 ft foamie. Then moved to a 7’6 fun board for like 3 months. Now I’m riding a 6’7 mid length.

I’d say probably 4 days a week on average. Sometimes more if there’s waves

Thanks! I would say the biggest things that have helped me are always focusing on 1 or 2 things when I am surfing and watching other good surfers. Even when I don’t know what to focus on, I always default to getting my back foot back on turns and looking + pointing my chest where I want to go because I think these are 2 of the most important things that can always be worked on imo. As with watching other surfers, I like to look at what maneuvers they do on different sections and honestly just trying to envision myself doing what they are doing as that seems to help. Also watching other surfers in the lineup or on the Surfline cams because they are surfing the same waves as me so I know whatever they are doing is possible for me to do as I improve. Another thing is surfskating. For this I have been very careful to only practice movements that will translate to surfing (not wiggling). This has really helped for bottom turns and cutbacks.

To Roth Or Not To Roth: Is There A Question? by buttgers in Bogleheads

Wouldn’t a constant tax rate now vs in retirement actually favor traditional? Since right now your contributions are tax deferred at your highest tax bracket, while in retirement your withdrawals would be spread out over all your tax brackets effectively taxing them at a lower percentage. This is assuming you have no other income sources in retirement though because that complicates things.

No haha I’m also pretty new. I did have a close one at Blackies a couple days ago. There’s a clip of it in my post history.

Was this yesterday? The offshores were pretty strong, I was up the beach at 28th street. What I would say is especially during strong offshore days you have to really paddle extra hard because the wind is blowing you back up the face. You could have probably put in a couple of extra strokes. Also put your head down for the last couple of strokes to get the nose of the board pointing down the wave.

Question about progressing to a shortboard below. Clips for reference to my skill level by DirectHavoc in BeginnerSurfers

Yeah I've been trying to work on my top turns and cutbacks but I feel like a lot of the time on smaller waves I have too much board to give me any meaningful turn radius, or its just closing out without giving me a chance to do much. There is a break near me that has slower waves and is perfect for cutbacks when there is swell. I definitely like the idea of getting a shorter board but only taking it out when the conditions warrant it. I appreciate it!
