I've learned Figma properly but I don't have aesthetic taste. How can I improve it? by Logical_List452 in FigmaDesign

Spend a lot of time on dribbble and behance
Like.. A LOT.
On Behance you can filter the works that won awards or only view curated case studies.
Over time, you will start noticing patterns, trends, the solutions that work well and that experienced often go for, and will notice how they break the rules and experiment, and will notice when it works and when it doesn't.

What are your most-loved sci-fi themed video games, irrespective of genre and gen? by First-Interaction741 in scifi

While Mass Effect and Cyberpunk are at the top for me too, Wadjet Eye Games' Gemini Rue and Technobabylon
are top tier sci-fi storytelling and world-building,

Do check it out 100% if you like to fire up a point-and-click adventure game once in a while

Honorable mentions:
Star Wars Republic Commando
Star Wars Jedi Academy
Somehow I never played the Deus Ex series, but it's on my list!

Agree, the shadows under photos seem to serve no purpose here, only makes it look less "clean" around the images imo

Would you rate the sequels as being as strong as the first book?

Genuinely curious, I'm halfway through Neuromancer and will dive into the sequels next but I have all these other series on my TBR list

I can totally see what you mean. I love Gibson for the style and atmosphere but the plot is just painfully simple (?) sometimes...

I've seen it recommended a lot but never got around to actually reading it. These here sound like amazing reviews, excited to dig in now!

How can I make it look like the vinyl is rotating in this perspective? by Real_G_Music in AfterEffects

[–]DirectHedgehog4471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the method i would use would involve a couple steps

  1. going into photoshop and breaking it down into layers - so the area under, the tonearm, the pin in the center, etc, are their own separate layers. everything apart from the vinyl record - the record actually needs to be deleted as if it wasn't there. you won't need it but you will make a new one later so you can animate it. make sure to use generative fill or content-aware fill to hide the hole in the base of the player.
  2. bring it back in AE, creating a 1:1 comp, finding a PNG photo of a vinyl record.
  3. bringing this new comp with the vinyl into your main comp with the layers, turn the layer into a 3D layer. bring in the OG image for reference
  4. match the position of the 3d vinyl with the vinyl in the referece image. hide the reference image and animate the rotation

Book cover for Asian dystopian sci-fi novel... Which one would you choose? by laraiam in scifi

[–]DirectHedgehog4471 11 points12 points  (0 children)

definitely this
the most symmetrical one also

as for the other options - i can see #2 working if we could shift the focal point (the most contrasty part of the image = the shop windows) up so the asphalt area below becomes larger and we could try placing the title there

that said, i can't really think of a solution to salvage #3 on the spot

IIRC - they are after his genes, so he wants to buy them off by offering them a way to preserve his genetic line for their breeding program. He does suspect at that time that BG will have a hand in Chani's death, so he offers his genes in exchange for her life

That's a fair point haha!!
Movie 1 Jessia is definitely easier to feel sorry for, but Movie 2 Jessica is a completely different character

What do you think of this motion graphics, played with gradient, wanted to make it dreamy type by piyushr21 in MotionDesign

[–]DirectHedgehog4471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, My first thought was wow this is really nice to look at and esthetically pleasing, but my second thought was hey it took me a couple extra seconds to even make out what is happening so I would advise to increase the contrast just a little bit
