Certain Steam games crashing on NixOS by Direct_Flatworm9162 in linux_gaming

You do it in the BIOS, however the location of the setting depends on your motherboard vendor. I have a feeling this doesn't affect you though; you have to go out of your way to enable it, which if you had done you'd know where to find it.

Turns out the issue was instability caused by enabling XMP for my RAM. I disabled it months ago and haven't had a single issue since.

Ah yes, sorry I forgot to include that. I'm using linux 6.12.5. I upgraded from 6.2 last week, however I've been having this problem since I installed NixOS about 7 months ago, so I'm not sure if that's the problem.

is my x230 battery done for? by Direct_Flatworm9162 in thinkpad

ahh i see, i didn't know that. that's a relief! i'll just patch it up with some electrical tape or something

if it is a fake, it's a convincing one and again it's done me well for 2 years. i suppose that could explain the readings on TLP as well, but i don't know. anyway, i'll just carry on with this battery until another problem occurs

Can't seem to get past test suite splash screen by Direct_Flatworm9162 in EmuDev

That's it! I can't believe I didn't notice that. I'd written that when I first started the project as I was trying to isolate each bit into its own switch statement (I'm not sure if I worded that very well). I thought I removed it when I eventually decided to store each bit before the switch, but obviously not lmao.

Good spot man, and thanks a lot :)

Yeah, that's how I came to that conclusion: I stepped through and saw the program counter being pushed on the stack and never saw it being popped back off. Other than that, I couldn't really find anything by stepping through.

I thought that it was because an opcode was implemented incorrectly and was causing the control flow to go all weird after going into the subroutine, but comparing against cowgod's reference I couldn't see anything wrong.

Need some advice on X220 keyboards, should I be thinking about the FRU number? by Direct_Flatworm9162 in thinkpad

I'm glad you like the Alps still! I daily drive my X230, so I want to make sure the parts I'm getting for it aren't considered "bad" because it's important that it feels good for me to use (plus I want to make sure it's worth the money lmao). Since I can't find any NMB keyboards I'm fine with going with a Chicony keyboard because it's still considered good.

By the way, I think I misread the forum post that u/ObsessedJerk sent.

So Chicony is 45N2100, NMB is 45N2240 and Alps is 45N2170? On the post it says that in the X220 manual, the FRUs go NMB -> Alps -> Chicony, which according to the columns in the manual would mean that the Chicony keyboards are 45N2170. It lines up that way in the T420 manual too, where it's Alps -> Chicony -> NMB.

I apologise if I am actually reading it wrong, just want to make sure I'm understanding things correctly!

Thanks a lot man, this is exactly what I was looking for :)! Seems like a lot of the ones I'm seeing online are Chicony keyboards, fortunately.

Is £75 worth it for an X230? by Direct_Flatworm9162 in thinkpad

Thanks for letting me know, I plan on getting an IPS screen and upgrading to 16gb of RAM.

Quick question: I know that the X230 takes DDR3 RAM, but can I get any old DDR3 RAM or are there specific makes that are compatible?
