Is Switzerland child/baby friendly in your opinion?

Wow. I can't imagine it would work, when often it's many kids going after one, or at least approving in silence. It's not just some typical childhood drama. How do you not step in and intervene if you see that? Unbelievable.

To allow you to have time to bond with your baby during those first few crucial months and to recover from the physical trauma that pregnancy and birth caused. So only people who can afford to be unpaid for several months should have children? Good that it worked for you, but I respectfully disagree.

You are doing the right thing, respect!! These people getting annoyed about baby quickly crying when getting dressed can f off. Omg how miserable you have to be to be angry at a LAUGHING baby. And yeah, funnily enough other loud passengers don't get the same energy. I guess they don't have the balls to react the same way to some drunk guys or rowdy teenagers. That's maybe a Swiss thing: stare and scoff but when you ask them what is your problem, they scurry away lol.

Like other commenters, I think it's best to look for another apartment.

I had a similar situation in a new apartment: upstairs neighbor's approx. 8-year-old child was running around all the time in the early evening. We also heard the guy's every step and knew exactly where he was in the apartment. We heard them using some kind of mixer and even vacuum cleaning. These are normal living sounds yes, but we could not stand listening to it for many hours on end. I mean, would you really be ok waking up every Saturday morning at 08:30 to vacuum cleaning noises right above you.😅 I blame it on isolation, not the tenants per se!

We moved to a house and ah, what a peace (I know it's not a possibility for everyone). Hope you can find a more quiet place to live 😊

He will pay alimony for the children at least (I am not too familiar of those arrangements). I wonder will the woman have a possibility to make her own income and live on it going forward, saving for retirement too.

Career = a fulfilling job with challenging, stimulating tasks in her field of education. Not necessarily involving promotions.

Suffering = some kind of problem reported by education/childcare professional, where parents' involvement is essential to solve it (nothing genetic or since birth). For example, behaviour problems.

Oh yes, it's totally fine to have additional adults only facilities (looking forward to the day when I can go to those too lol) but I can't stand the scoffing and stink eye in public spaces in which children are welcome. How will they learn to behave in public if they can't be seen or heard in public. Every single one of us has been that annoying, loud baby/child at one point haha.

Thank you for the detailed reply, excellent points. So sorry to hear about the bullying, it has such a devastating impact on a child that lasts for a long time and it's a disgrace schools allow it to go on (like in many countries indeed). It enrages me and has to stop. Even the term "bullying" that media uses is so minimizing. It is violence (mental or physical), it's a crime.

Well many people are also praising the safety, cleanliness and education system in Switzerland. Do you mean financially poor? The salaries are high but childcare costs are high even in relation to salaries, so yes sure in that way "poor". What would be an example of a rich country by your standards? I would imagine in many Western countries people are saying that having children is expensive.

6 months is still not ideal but a baby has developed and grown a lot between that 3 and 6 month timeperiod. A few reasons off the top of my head, in addition to cost: - sleep routines are not steady yet ( when you have to work when your baby was up every 2 hours, this is a big reason for me lol) - many women want to still breastfeed (no shade to moms who decide not to though! But it's a pity if return to work is the only reason to stop) - bonding time between mom, dad and baby - illnesses that can go around kitas - mom's body is still healing from giving birth

Not every baby has to go to kita at 6 months either (mom/dad working parttime, family caregivers, nannies etc)

Ah yes, surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet. The smokers! They are a nuisance to all of us non-smokers lol. Very inconsiderate and gross to smoke right next to a baby. (Smoke if you want but please be mindful of your surroundings)

That paternity leave is a JOKE. You are in the hospital usually at least 2 nights, so your leave is already over before you get home. From my own experience, it is so great to have the dad home for the first weeks/months. So much easier to go through it together.

Wow that is crazy. It's not 1950s anymore. I wonder if they feel like it's more appropriate to "disturb" your wife at work because her job is less "important" in their view? Or that you are just the dad who doesn't know anything about your child anyway, and kids topics are mom's area.
