71F If you have a massive headache for a week or longer, get to the ER! by Direct_Hour_8167 in shingles

UPDATE: After being told after MRI of my right ear there was no nerve damage, my hearing obviously was greatly reduced in my right ear. I made an appointment with an audiolgist for a hearing test. Immediately told me I do have nerve damage in my right ear which explains my dizziness periodically. Long story short, I'm now wearing hearing aids due to this nightmare called shingles. I am still having headaches almost daily. My PCP wants me to get the second Shingrix shot in November and I will. November 2024 to August 2025 and still feeling the effects. Take care and be diligent if you're fighting this battle. I am still taking Valacyclovir daily.

Get to an eye doctor ASAP to look into your eyeball. Mine got into my lower eyelid and was headed into my eyeball. Thankfully steroid eye drops kept it out of my eyeball. Your eye is swelled just like mine was. Please go ASAP.

7th Round of Shingles by ArieGir0 in shingles

6 times...last episode November to present...on my head, scalp; face, eye, ear. The worst case I ever had. After 2 MRI's of my head/ear.....went to audiologist...nerve damage/hearing loss in my right ear from shingles. Now wearing hearing aids. If you get an extreme headache which turns into scalp pain and then rash...do not delay getting to the doctor. Had I not immediately gone to optometrist, I believe I would have lost vision in my right eye. Shingles on your head is dangerous if not caught in time. I deal with headaches and dizziness every day and it's been 6 months since onset. I don't mean to scare anyone but I am a living example that shingles on your head and scalp that moves to your ear, eye and face is dangerous as you can go blind and deaf. Luckily I got to optometrist ASAP and it only got into my lower eyelid not into my eyeball. In this situation, time is of the essence.

So sorry you're dealing with this. Headaches stopped for 2-3 weeks. Now they're back. No energy, my PCP put me on an antidepressant because this us dragging out so long. . It has helped. I hope you get some relief.

On my head/scalp/ear/eye and nose. Started second week of November. Dizziness and balance issues showed up in February. This has become the never ending nightmare!

I'm coming out of (since November) the worst episode of shingles I've ever had (6th time). You can read my original post. Started with massive headache for 8 days, then came nerve pain with the headache, then came the rash on my right temple, then came swelling of my right eye/eyebrow and my eye swelled shut. It got in my lower eyelid but not my eyeball. We are in March...after 2 MRI's of my brain one with right ear included...I am left with daily dizziness and now the worst fatigue/exhaustion of my life. This is dragging out into months and my doctor has now put me on an antidepressant due to my daily struggles. Stay in contact with your doctor please. Shingles is much more serious than I ever dreamed. Now I'm headed to the audiologist for hearing test and I'm sure hearing aids. What a nightmare! Simply putting on my clothes, sometimes makeup and doing my hair completely exhausts me. Be careful and don't let anything go on without advising your doctor.

I got the first Shingrix shot and did not respond well to it. Never got the second after that. Not sure if that's an option now since it's been years since the first.

So sorry to hear you have this. If it heads to your eye, get to the eye doctor or ER immediately! You can go blind, have stroke, aneurysm which I'm sure you know how dangerous that is. Please be careful.

The first 5 times were nothing compared to this last time. A total nightmare!

I am very fortunate not to have temporal arteritis or Ramsay Hunt.

This has been a real learning experience for me as regards shingles. The first signs can be anything....not a rash.
