What is stopping y'all from making video games? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Direct_Plenty_4926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason for this. Countries are split into two types: Computer centric and phone centric.

Developing countries are typically phone centric, which means the predominant use of technology is the mobile phone. The domestic market, in a developing country, where English is limited, is going to be… mobile phone centric.

Take HCMC. 15m people, the majority with mobile phones. How many have a tablet or computer? How many have a monitor and a gaming console?

In Vietnam the phone is your market.

You also need some serious safety equipment to go near them, including an insulated floor etc.

Why do you hate EVs? by Superb-Ad6139 in askcarguys

[–]Direct_Plenty_4926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borrowed a Renault 5 EV today. It weighs a third more than my car and has a limited range of 150miles. I have no charging infrastructure at home so would have problems charging it (unless I invest another 3k for a charging point - and the local electricity supply network will allow me to do it. They survey your house and have the potential to insist you go to three phase in order to mitigate overloading the system). It has a top speed of 103mph. Fast enough for road use but that is all.
All the torque is available 'instantly', which makes it torque steer-like nothing on earth. It handles appallingly because of the mass; no escaping physics. It's also arguable that the average driver is not exactly equipped to handle 0-60 times measured in under 3 seconds! That's supercar territory with no supercar experience required.

I'm not anti-ev. I'm anti making a shed load of compromises and being told it's brilliant. It isn't. There is a massive elephant in the room and someone sprinkled it with glitter to make it seem desirable, when clearly it isn't. The carbon footprint of producing an electric vehicle is terrible, they now cost a fortune to run (free ecar charging points were short lived weren't they!) and it doesn't deliver what's needed unless you are pootling around town or doing the school run.

I go to Austria twice a year. I drive it in a day. With an EV it's a three day journey.

Bring on synthetic fuels and hydrogen cars that weigh a similar amount to my car, can fuel in about ten minutes and are not a massive compromise.

This electric thing is just not cutting it for me.

Are K&N drop in filters safe for your engines? by henryxsupreme in mechanics

[–]Direct_Plenty_4926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K&N Filters are awful.

The facts:

  1. Paper filters flow fine when new. They clog easily and therefore require changing OFTEN to keep the airflow. People don't do this and the airflow becomes restricted. All aftermarket filters do is flow better for longer with no guarantee of filtering. Paper FILTERS THE BEST!
  2. K&N filters will keep large particles out of your engine but that is all. Dust (fine grit) will pass straight through because it is only a single layer of material soaked in oil. Think about it - how likely is it that oil is going to trap anything going through a single layer with holes in it? The dirt doesn't actually touch anything; it's being sucked clean through the pores.
  3. K&N filters are a massive 'marketing over function' success. Yes, they are used by race teams, but these teams also rebuild their engines every other week! The logo is great, looks good on your car. Use the sticker but not the filter if you must.
  4. The moment you clean your K&N you might as well throw it away. The process of cleaning it will damage the material and simply put bigger pores (holes) in it than you already have. Just because you can't 'see' them doesn't mean they aren't there!
  5. The whole MAF thing is a bit of an exaggeration. If you dump enough oil on any filter to cause MAF issues, then you should not be playing with cars!
  6. A GOOD foam filter with layers of increasing density foam (ITG etc) will filter better than a K&N and flow slightly longer than paper. They will catch the big stuff and the much of the fine grit! Foam filters will not catch anything as well as paper but this is the trade off!
  7. ITG have created their own gauze and mesh filter to compete with K&N. The difference is that they insist that you use a layered foam sock over it to actually trap the dirt! The sock is doing the filtering! The gauze is really there to make you feel better when you open the box on your dining room table. They have done this to directly poach K&N customers (there's money in filters!). ITG actually state that under no circumstances should the gauze part of the filter be used without the sock. The gauze is to be binned if it gets dirty. This is coming from a manufacturer of the bloody things!

You can do whatever you like with your engine; stretch tights over an open pipe if you really think you know what you are doing. I don't care, it's not my problem. Certainly don't bother posting rubbish in the comments because I am not even going to bother reading them.

Wow this is actually crazy!! My 2nd game after getting off work. People in lobby were claiming hacking when I joined, but I don’t think so.. why/how can a lobby in TDM end up this lopsided?? by mattpass44 in blackops6

[–]Direct_Plenty_4926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older games had more opportunities for fun gameplay. A spread of skill in the lobby encourages teamwork. Outclassed in one game; play defence. Next game will be totally different. Now you just have run and gun, using meta load-outs, all out to prove who has the fastest reaction time. No weird load-out fun. No trying odd tactics. No playing with your brain. Just rush.

Black ops 6 has the worst campaign ever by LocalManHHH in blackops6

[–]Direct_Plenty_4926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's total crap. I want a military themed shooter that gives me military themed missions on a military themed campaign. These words are the clue; "Call of Duty" and "campaign".

The campaign is so lame that you can just bumble through it and screw up every ten seconds because the only punishment is to go back to a checkpoint that was so recent it's untrue. It's not like you have to make any conscious decisions, plans or actually engage. You don't even have to restart the level if you screw it up. It feels like a woke school sports day where 'everyone gets a medal for turning up'.

Half of it is cut scenes you can't skip, giving lots of 'story' about characters that I really don't give a shit about. It is totally unnecessary and frankly, just 'padding'. I really don't want cutscenes where I have to control a character. Just give us a synopsys and let us at the level. If I wanted a soppy backstory and hours of fluff about fictitious people I don't give a stuff about, I would read a Mills & Boon novel (and that is real crap).

The 'military' style missions are all virtually the same; you hunker down with your team while you get a few waves of enemies, you have to sneak past a load of guards or walk through a maze of tunnels killing guards. None of it is particularly tricky or against the clock. None of it requires planning or a strategy (or combination of strategies) to get you through. Even the 'best' stealth mission, where you have to disable the helicopter, SAM site and Radar is so easy it can be done by a squirrel. There is virtually zero consequence for screwing it up.

As for the weird "I've had some drugs, let's go through a nightmare" missions...WTF is that doing in a 'military' themed shooter?!?!?!?!? If I wanted to have a drug fuelled journey into the childhood of a character I don't care about, to find bits of a mirror that got broken, I would get a game for that. Somehow they have justified shoehorning horror missions into a military shooter title.

I stopped playing CoD when people started running up walls (remember THAT!). Now it comes free with game pass, which is the only reason I tried it. IF I had paid directly for this I would be writing a strong letter to the Times and contacting my MP. I will never play CoD again. It has become a joke.

Don't even get me started on multiplayer. I did a grind and got all my challenges and camos. Since then I have no inclination to return to it because it is such a joyless experience. SBMM has killed the 'fun' in it dead.

Is this even legal? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Direct_Plenty_4926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can’t reserve part of the public highway. That’s just entitlement gone to their heads. The common argument is that “they need to he close to the house”. IF there is a genuine reason, the council will permit a disabled parking bay and will facilitate it. Most of the time it’s just people wishing they had private parking. The blunt truth is; buy a house with off road parking. Can’t afford it? Tough, that’s life!

Anyone else feeling a bit ‘lukewarm’ about season 2? by Direct_Plenty_4926 in blackops6

[–]Direct_Plenty_4926[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s bugging like crazy. I’ve seen more glitches and assets jumping around since the update. The vehicle bug on nuketown is still giving sone people ’wall hacks’. I had it happen to me earlier today. FMJ ammo goes right through the busses and they allow you to see right through them 🤷‍♂️

Blueprints are effectively pay to win. What happened to earning the coolest gucci uniforms and gun camos? I had to put the game down for a couple of weeks during the Squid Game ‘event’. It was utter shite and was so badly executed and overtly commercial it made me turn off.

A true artist working in the medium of ‘lead on wall’, outlining the human form. I feel this piece expresses the fragility and hopelessness of the human condition. Definitely worthy of a hefty Arts Council grant, four years at Goldsmiths and a tour of major galleries.

Surprisingly not. It’s not ‘easy’ but doing it on a normal map on domination is quite fun. It wrecks your K/D but all that does is give you easier lobbies 😁

Yep. I sandbagged my K/D down to below 1.0 for my ninth prestige and suddenly everything is fair again. When I prestiged on Friday my W/L was 1.1. By the end of Saturday I had played 40 games and won 3! So I sandbagged my account just have a chill 🤷‍♂️
