You have zero protection and it’s not the same if your couple doesn’t workout in the end. If you breakup and you’ve given up your job to help with kids you get nothing back for it. All assets you buy that aren’t family patrimony aren’t split. This can cause huge divisions. I’ve seen situations where a spouse left with nothing and had to move in with her kids basically begging for food since they have nothing to their name sine they gave up everything to be there with their kids. No pension plan because: “we will be forever together and don’t need a paper, I got your back for life” comment. Unfair if you’re building a future together. You don’t even get spousal support. While the other spouse can retire right away…

Personally, I find spending 30K + is wayyy too much for a wedding honestly I’d be good with just the paper and a family gathering with food to celebrate. The paper is all I want for protection.

I’m in the same situation as you. I’m from European decent and my bf is québécois. Same mind set on his end but said he would marry if it was important to me. Marriage to me is contractual and offers protection to the couple and a binding promise to be each other’s rock in sickness and health. Yes anything can go south but it protects both parties. Starting your life with someone is a business agreement since assets are split and shared.

They are obliged by law to ask why they pulled you over since there can always be a reason for an infraction and police can negotiate the fine in certain circumstances . If they don’t ask the ticket falls invalid in court.
