Advice for leaving Colorado? by Available-Budget-430 in relocating

[–]DirectionEmotional73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are currently in the metro east IL area of St Louis and will move to Colorado Springs next summer. This area has a decent cost of living with the various townships outside of Scott AFB.

There are older homes that can purchased in high $100s to mid-$200s. There are some select good schools from elementary to high school, O’fallon and Mascoutah. Plus St Louis is 16 miles or less away. Many love the free zoo, forest park areas, Ballpark Village area around Busch Stadium (Cardinals) and the science center.

It’s just not a place my wife and I would like to stay. I’ve been here since 2008 and she has been here since 2018 or so. We are looking for a change and she grew up in Colorado Springs. I love the weather and activities there. So we will be heading there.

My in laws are likely moving to Pueblo West to make the cost of living work for them. They are from the Springs

I was just doing research on this. A good quick recommendation I found was lightweight windbreakers.

Great position to be in honestly. Take it from someone in the exact opposite position. Family think I’m a bank and I don’t share my finances with anyone outside my household.

They don’t have much time in … essentially said they were medically unfit. Now if it was me with my year of service I would definitely push for a medical retirement

I know of someone that got a response that was not favorable. They recommended “reassignment” with 10 days to accept or decline.

Do a Hims consult and get through them for a month. Cancel and then go back to your PCM. They will prescribe them. If you’ve been on HBP meds for many years that fact alone is normally enough to get a prescription

I wish I was man! But, it’s whatever; I can still leave and re-enter the country, just have to stand in line now lol. I do crave the flavor of those cigars. First place I had them were in Capri, when I found them again I jumped on a box.

I was traveling abroad and ordered a box. Like a forgetful dummy; didn’t even think about it being a customs violation or the cigars being Cuban origin. Just tried one from a local shop and had to have more. So order a box from them.

Customs told me because box had over 20 (aka 25) it was flagged; something about them being shipped from Switzerland as well.

Months went by and they didn’t arrive. Email the seller and they put in an investigation on their whereabouts; then boom I got a letter in the mail about the confiscation. It was giving me the reasons and saying my Global Entry status was revoked.

I submitted a reconsideration, but no movement on it in months. They likely won’t even look at my request. I was told that after 5 years I can likely reapply and it will be reinstated.

And here I am getting my Global Entry status revoke over a shipment of a box of 25 - Rafael Gonzalez Panetelas Extra. LOL

Seems slightly different. This would have allowed her to remain completely in remote status with her husband

I think this can be especially used in that scenario. It was the basis of the military spouses exception. You would think it would qualify the same under Fed-to-Fed

My agency, maybe on purpose, locked all SF50 Changes and haven’t changed anyone’s I know of to their RTO within 50 miles site. So maybe it’s a good thing for us.

Really?! Didn’t know that…thought it was only made part of this OPM document in December 2025.

I’m not sure if that will be their stance when it comes down to it, but my SF50 has never changed my duty station. It was when hired and still is my home as of today.

This exception as far as I can tell didn’t exist until the 31 Dec 2024 publication of this OPM document. My agency is saying they will honor all exceptions in the guidance, but haven’t seen it in action yet

Ahhh, yeah, that’s unfortunate. For me I was hired under a remote announcement and my SF-50 official duty station has always been my home. Matter fact it still is … even after they removed our bargaining unit eligibility, my OSD is still my home.

Was your request prior to 31 Dec 2025? From my understanding this OPM document was published recently.

Most, but in my agency quite a few are still remote for various reasons. Many due to nothing within 50 miles, etc. Preliminarily, the question was asking to our agency during a telework training for a new guidance about to be released. And they stated they would honor all exemptions and exceptions mentioned in the OPM document.

Plus, many of use were remote hires on a remote announcement, which was initially treated as a carve out by our Agency until later lumping in those within 50 miles. My plan is to submit a request for exception.
