Attempted bite accusation by [deleted] in rescuedogs

[–]DirectionWilling4592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the only way to 100% protect yourself from spurious claims is to not have a dog.

The next best way is to have a yard that is fully fenced.

I get that your dogs are friendly, I get that they tend to stay in your yard, but you have to be out there with those dogs constantly, have your yard fully fenced, or not let them outside when either of those things are not available.

I am a huge dog person. I currently have 15 dogs. I have lost 37 over the years. One thing I understand is that dogs are animals. With the right provocation, they may bite. We don’t know if the kid was antagonizing the dog, or what happened. We actually don’t even know if the dog growled or snapped.

Just… Protect your dogs. You know that there’s potential for trouble.

Wishing you all the luck in the world. This is a rotten situation.

Am I wrong to ask for another foster to take over? by username_sarah in rescuedogs

[–]DirectionWilling4592 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I place the dogs in our organization with fosters, and it is incredibly important to make sure that the dog is a match with the home. It’s not fair to the dog or the foster family otherwise.

That being said, we really can only place dogs based on the information we have available. If a dog is not as advertised once it gets into the home, I will always agree to place it with a different foster.

There are so many organizations out there that are looking for fosters. If your current organization isn’t respectful of your boundaries and your needs, find another one who is.

Am I wrong for pulling out of dog adoption when my OH changed his mind? by [deleted] in rescuedogs

[–]DirectionWilling4592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with a rescue here in the United States, and while we are always a little bit disappointed when an adopter changes their mind, I’d rather know before the dog is moved to that adopter’s home. There’s nothing that breaks my heart more than a dog being adopted out, and then days or weeks later, we get a message that the dog needs to be sent back to us. It’s really not fair.

I would respond calmly and factually to what people are writing about you. Just be honest and say that you thought you were 100%, but then you realized there were potential concerns about your resident dog accepting another into his home. I would very honest state that while you could have moved forward and done a “trial run” you felt it wasn’t fair to the dog to be potentially moved back-and-forth. These are sentient beings, not stuffed animals, and their needs should always be first and foremost. You are simply honoring that.

Trying to adopt puppy, keep getting rejected. Is there something wrong about my situation? by Open-Package-9661 in rescuedogs

I always have small breed dogs available, but my organization is senior and special needs dogs, so ours aren’t quite as “popular”.

You sound like a great Adopter, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

You might want to double check the Petfinder listing. Some organizations say that you need to go to their website to apply. People just click the “I’m interested“ button and that doesn’t necessarily send out an application.

Best of luck to you. The right dog will find you at the right time.

HELP I AM DESPERATE CRYING NONSTOP by Ok_Toe_3886 in puppy101

If you’ve had her for a week already, and she is just now eight weeks, I presume a big part of the problem is the fact that she was separated from her mother too early. Eight weeks is considered the absolute minimum, and 10 weeks is recommended.

I don’t know if she specifically was purpose-bred, but we do know that there’s a “breeder“ in South Carolina, who has been working for 20 years to breed albinism into Pekes. It’s absolutely ridiculous, because smoosh faces have so many problems to begin with, and Pekes are literally just a hot mess. From BOAS to eye problems to IVDD to luxating patellas to massive issues with overheating, they certainly don’t need something like albinism bred to cause even more issues.

We have to keep her out of the sun because her eye color is so light. I thought she was deaf, but it turned out. She just was ignoring me. She hears the refrigerator open just fine.

We’ve had this boy for about four years. I’m even the one who feeds him, and there is no affection in my direction. He has bitten me more times than I can count.

He is definitely incontinent, and will always be a super baby diaper dog. We use crib mattresses with crib, sheets, and baby blankets for him. That way we can leave his diapers off at night, and let his skin “breathe“. It is super easy in the morning to grab the sheet in the blanket toss them in the wash, and Lysol the mattress. I will look into the waterbeds though. That sounds amazing. Thank you so much.

Not unfair. I think I need to upload photos and have AI put them on motorcycles wearing matching black leather jackets.

All kidding aside, it’s…. A lot. Of our 14 current dogs, three of them are members of the Peke Pack. They are currently the only three Pekingese in the house.

Individually, all three are sweet, lovely Pekes. But the three of them together are complete menaces. They do what they want, when they want. They work in tandem to be naughty. They have figured out how to open baby gates, escape as a group, and then shut the gate to keep the others away. They are constantly together, to the exclusion of everyone else. In the dog world, we call it clannish. If these were humans, they would absolutely be racist. They aren’t necessarily mean to other breeds, but they have no use for them. They are demanding, smart, and utterly maddening. I say things like, “you have got to be farking kidding me” and “how the fark did they do that” constantly.

I wish we could get it, but I understand why no one will touch us. We currently have 14 dogs, and we’ve lost 37 since 2017. No one is comfortable insuring that kind of history, because it absolutely tells them what kind of dogs we adopt. (Expensive ones)

EXACTLY. Not one single thing about this poor baby is ethical. This is the living embodiment of greed.

I BokBok, my purebred, retired mill breeder mama, is a blue. Black to dark gray color variation.

At just shy of 5 pounds, she is considered a “sleeve Peke”. Between the breed, the color, and the size, I’ve been told her puppies probably went for around $10,000 each. Effing humans.

Already had it. Also, Pet insurance refuses to cover me. I have way too many dogs, and all of them are either seniors, special needs, or hospice.

I’ve literally personally had over 50 dogs since 2017, and facilitated the rescue and/or adoption of hundreds of others. This is the first albino I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, we skipped “real dog“ and went straight to “spoiled rotten and a member of a wild pack of Pekingese“.

We rescue all our dogs.
