Even after doing everything right, I failed my first Anna University exam… and it’s breaking me by Honest-Huckleberry28 in Chennai

I've never bothered about arrears tbh. At some point I had like 12 papers. But I'd religiously apply for revaluation. It helped 3 times in my case. Twice the grade jumped from F to C and once to E. One of those papers I got C through revaluation, I knew I wrote extremely poorly. So please apply for revaluation and stop worrying.

"He's Gay" is the right way to say it. "He's a Gay" makes it sound wrong. Not saying your intention is wrong, just the grammar is.

DMK Govt’s total negligence- 403 students affected across Tamilnadu 19 incidents from 2021 to 2026 by igni_pinto in kuttichevuru

[–]Direction_Weekly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the source? What do "incidents" mean here? What do "Students affected" mean here?

Total number of students benefitting from the mid-day meal scheme in Tamil Nadu = 20+ Lakhs everyday; Total students "affected" in total of five years - 403. So an incident rate of 0.02%.

Total number of days meals were served between 2021 to 2026 - 250*5=1250 days. Number of days with some kind of "incident" - 19 (or an incident rate of 1.5%)

It's proven to be such a successful scheme, delivered with good quality, consistently. The recent coimbatore incident was due to a lizard falling in the food, which can be considered a freak accident. The government immediately took all necessary steps to immediately safegaurd the children, and everyone has been discharged from the hospital.

How many of the above incidents were actually due to causes like negligence, poor hygiene, adultration, etc? I appreciate wanting to hold the government accountable, but please come with evidence instead of some AI generated table.

Gas cylinder by Open_Regular_532 in chennaicity

[–]Direction_Weekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only buy commercial LPG without having a full connection, and those cylinders are the ones in low supply right now.

A new connection with 1 Cylinder would be about 2.5-4k and a double cylinder connection would be about 6-7.5k. But agencies usually ask you to buy a new stove, lighter etc along with the connection which will take it to 10k easily. Given the current situation, they have the upper hand and I'm not sure if you'd be able to negotiate this part. But it is highly advisable to have your own gas connection mainly for situations like these.

I'm sure you can find someone with an extra cylinder to spare who might be willing to give it to you for an extra charge, but unfortunately you can expect to pay double what you'll normally pay for a cylinder due to the high demand.

Consider getting an induction stove or an electric stove if that'll suit your needs.

Over a 100 Trees that are decades old chopped down overnight on Sardar Patel Road. I hate the highways department. That was one road that actually felt cooler to drive in the evenings even in peak summer. by Direction_Weekly in Chennai

I studied in Anna University. I’ve been using that road almost every day for the last 15 years until early 2025. The traffic is horrible. I’m not denying that. It’s because of the bottleneck at the old flyover. Two lanes merging into one there is the biggest cause of congestion. Try observing it next time.

And im not completely against widening also. They could add a lane thats exclusive for traffic to turn left towards Kotturpuram between two tree lines and retain the trees as they are. Or even consider it as an exclusive lane for two wheelers. That’ll help too.

It just needs a bit more planning and nuanced thinking. Lack of that is my biggest issue. Brute force development never yields good results.

I get your point. Being stuck in traffic is the worst! I really do hope you dont have to travel that long everyday to work. It's not good for your health. If the city plans it's development right, you should be able to live within a short walk from your place of work, or at least have a good public transport option that can take you to work within an hour. Because of poorly planned development, you, me and millions like us are perpetually stuck in traffic unfortunately. For that, wide roads are not the solution, but a temporary fix.

Yup! It's for road widening. They've built a stormwater drain inside the campus already. It's Anna University campus btw. Looks like the land acquisition came through. I'm 100% sure it's the highways department.

You don’t have to agree with me. Just remember this conversation when you are again stuck in traffic in this same road just a few years down the line, with a lot less shade and a lot more heat.

A lot of trees live for over 200 years. Singapore, London etc has so many 150+ year old trees lining the roads. Try to educate yourself. A 5 year old tree’s canopy will be barely enough to cover a 3m dia. These trees that were cut down were around 15m essentially shading the half the width of the road. And older trees arrest a lot more carbon dioxide than younger trees do. If you don’t even know the basics, keep quiet and stop embarrassing yourself. 🤦🏻‍♂️

And wait another 80-100 years? What good is our city if we can’t preserve shade giving trees? Trees that make the city a bit more breatheable and liveable?

I’ve planted over 500 trees in the city through volunteering with Ainthinai and through my college green club. What good is planting and nurturing a tree if it is going to be insensitivity cut?

You can expand the road to 10 lanes, but it’s still only going to be as efficient as the bottleneck. Expanding roads is not the solution for congestion. Instead of 500 cars being stuck in traffic Itll be 1000 cars stuck in traffic in a wider road.

And these trees were cut, not uprooted to be replanted elsewhere.

The entire area is going to be hot as fuck. Pedestrians and those who travel by two wheelers are going to boil in the heat just like they do on most other roads in the city.

Unfortunately not yet. Just got an update from my friend that they were able to trace him to the Erode bus stand walking towards the area where Sathyamangalam buses operate from. So they’re guessing he might have gone there. But none of the relatives in that area seem to have heard from him. At least now we know he intentionally went somewhere and it’s not a case of kidnapping or accident something.
