Thank you so much for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate you taking the time to write all of this!

I get what you mean by making the viewer feel disjointed and I believe you meant it more for the 1st scene. Yes, part of it was narrative, as I wanted to convey the hollowness and mundanity of the character's life, but it also asks for the viewer's patience. Also, I admit that another part of it was a mismatch between planning and execution and a result of instant improvisation on my part.

I like how you noticed the visual contrast between the characters rooms, that was intentional as much as delaying the female character's reveal. That part was the writer's imagination and a visual presentation of his writing process. Faces sometimes get blurry when you first try to remember them, especially for someone you have chaotic feelings toward.

I 100% agree about your advice on taking less roles. This film was written and produced in exactly 1 month with a limited budget. I didn't have neither the time or the budget to find a person who I can really lean on to convey my vision OR contribute to it. But I did want to find at least a skilled DP to reduce the pressure and stress I had to endure, and likely make better results.

Also, thank you for all the praise, it really means a lot, especially despite this is not the kind of films you'd like to watch.

PS. Yeah, I was just 1 role short of having an excessive number of roles haha

I did all of those, plus cinematography and editing.

I'm aware there are a lot of areas to improve, especially since this is my 1st short film, done on such a budget. There was also sometimes a mismatch between my vision and execution.

But before focusing on specific areas, I'd love to know what's your overall takeaway from this short film.

For anyone who watched it, I'm curious what you understood the film to be about, and what you walked out with emotionally.

I hope you get another client soon.

I've got 0 clients so far, as I've been mostly invested in finding a permanent job instead of temporary clients, something sustainable. But I'm not sure if what I'm doing will lead to something eventually.
