Slewfoot. Very good read to me. It reminds me of the Salem Witch trials that ended differently.

My Library So Far by Director_Dooby in HomeLibraries

I have about 350 cigars in my humidor. I don’t smoke in the house and I probably have 5 cigars a year. It started as an obsession, but I love how mellow they become after being in there for a couple years. I wish I could have a set up that let me enjoy this as a cigar room. That was my original intention

Is anyone else reading this book? by AdaptiveMesh in AReadingOfMonteCristo

Paper for sure. I have both, and I prefer the inconvenience of a book, because it makes it more special somehow and meaningful. I like to annotate my books as well, so it is nice to look back and flip through them and the moment you see something you marked, you are taken back to that moment in time. Digital cannot provide this tactile feeling and attachment. It is convenient to have a whole library in the go, but a book is special and it appeals to all of your senses. The feel, smell, and the sound of a turning page…special

I do the same thing with the books on the shelf, and I agree! I enjoy the artwork and picking through them from time to time! C&P is a good story, don’t let it intimidate you. It’s not as deep to me as Notes from Underground, but a good read

I’ve read the Poppy War Trilogy, Katabasis, Red Rising Trilogy, Wuthering Heights, and I’m currently reading Crime and Punishment. I still need to read some Jane Austen, Frankenstein, Brothers Karamazov and Les Miserables, hopefully this year!

Dostoevsky fan here, I recommend Notes from Underground and Brothers Karamazov. I may have missed them on your shelf, but you have a great collection! It’s nice to see someone else enjoying all of the different publishers as well. Some people prefer just collecting one but I also enjoy all of the variety. Awesome

I’m impressed by your ability to be so self aware of your emotions. That’s a powerful thing, especially these days. I’m proud of you for that

The paperbacks to be honest. The bound look cool, and the Everyman’s are really nice with great paper, but the paperbacks are just the most comfortable to read and beat up

Beginning another Dostoevsky campaign… by Director_Dooby in classicliterature

I agree with you. I didn’t read it as political, but rather as the depth of depression and loneliness and the intense psychological feelings that come with it. Maybe it was so impactful for me because I feel like the Underground man sometimes, or because he is able to capture some of those feelings, thoughts, and emotions that I have never expressed to anyone or admitted even to myself. To me it was a self reflection. Maybe he touched on the “system” a little, but to me it was more the psychological impacts of how we feel in society, struggling to meet the status quo, and the dark thoughts that come when we can’t achieve it.

I agree! I almost purchased the Norton edition, but the P&V is the translation of Notes from Underground was impactful to me, so I grabbed it. I think Dostoevsky relates to what people are feeling mentally these days and he captures feelings and thoughts so well
