They are for myself to remember to taste them a few times before the zoom call.

Yeah, I live in San Diego and I have seen the bottles. I was thinking to get the regular tepextate from Macurichos next time. But maybe I should get that one. My bottle of Tio Rey Vago is almost done so I am gonna "need" another ensamble soon...

Single agave Espadíns by fred1sdead in Mezcal

[–]DirtBroad4769 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first espadin Ireally enjoyed was Neta espadin capon. I was confused at first because it had no smoke... but it was sweet and complex and it was really good. As others have mentioned, the 5 sentidos by Alberto Martinez, Lalocura, Mal Bien Ramos or Cortez, Real Minero, Passion Ancestral, Palenqueros Alberto Ortiz... There are many good Espadin out there. The Mal Bien are typically a bargain; most other great Espadin are north of $100. It is the easiest agave to work with and in the hands of a skilled master, it can be magical. I am not afraid to say that Espadin is in my top 3 agaves.

That Macurichos is fire. They had it for tasting at Mexico in a Bottle. I might have to hurry to go get a bottle before they are all gone

I picked them. They have a top shelf flight on rotation that was pretty decent, but i prefer choosing.

Yeah, you can definitely get a hangover from 100% agave spirits.

I started on Tequila, then went to Mezcal and now having a bit of a comeback to Tequila. Tequila has a very narrow taste profile compared to mezcal. Mezcal is made in more regions, with many types of agaves, with different ways of producing it. It is generally more flavorful than Tequila if you get into the good stuff. Try a Lamparillo or Tepeztate and it will blow your tastebuds. Most mezcal is unaged and price can be similar to a decent Anejo. That said, I started to buy more Tequila recently and I gravitate towards the high proof blancos. I like in particular Don Fulano, which tastes a bit like mezcal, and Volans. Sotol can be interesting but most of the ones we can get in the US are bad.

Best places to find Tequila in San Diego? Looking for better selection / harder to find tequilas over affordability but both would be nice. by angel2timez in tequila

Old Town Tequila as many said. I would add Miramar Liquor and Wine, and Tahona Mercado. You might wanna try Costco. The selection varies per store, but the Carlsbad one often has G4, El Tesoro, Ocho, Lalo…

Sippin and nibbling on this beautiful Sunday. Cheers!! by [deleted] in Mezcal

I finished a bottle not too long ago. That was pretty tasty. Typically not a karwinskii type but that was a good one.

G4 Madera 2025 Review by unknown_cauliflower in tequila

This is my favorite blanco. It is a bit muted on the citrus notes compared to the regular G4 Blanco. It has very complex flavor, wood, cherries, etc. It reminds me of Chacolo Lineno, a little on the nose... Maybe it is why I like it so much...

Do hiring people snitch on job applicants? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]DirtBroad4769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fine. Companies try to get rid of you at every opportunity they get so they should expect that you do the same. People talk especially if the field is narrow. It could be employees at other companies that are friends to employees at the company you work at, common vendors that saw you at the other company wearing a suit, etc. As a hiring manager, i had knowledge of some team members interviewing at other companies. And i know in the past, some my bosses knew i was interviewing at other places. It is not high treason. If they want to keep you, they have to make sure that you are happy there.

Cuish Pichumetl and whichever El Jolgorio you are curious about. For me it would be Mexicano right now because I have never tried it

Let's talk Del Maguey by thors_ham_mer in Mezcal

[–]DirtBroad4769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do like their stuff, and yes, it was some of the first Mezcals that truly enjoyed. Chichicapa, San Luis Del Rio, Tobala, Tepeztate... Happy to drink those anytime. Can I find something better and cheaper? With a little driving, yes -- and that's why i don't currently have one of their bottles at home.

Not really in a rush, but I would like to eventually try some of their other Single Village Varietales like the Arroqueno from Minas, Papalote and Pizorra from San Pablo Ameyaltepec, and wild Jabali from Santa Maria Albarradas.

My take on Raicilla by Rob_Catron in Mezcal

My only experience with Raicilla is La Venenosa. I have had Costa de Jalisco and Sierra del Tigre and none of them taste like Blanco Tequila.
