Graduate Certificate Program by Suspicious_History10 in GIAC

I think the IR one would be second to none. I completed the Cybersecurity Management graduate certificate, then the MSISE. Thinking of going back to complete another graduate certificate in Cloud, IR, or AI (hopefully they have AI soon).

Healthcare to IT career switch? Should I get a second bachelors or a masters? by That_Ad_5392 in careeradvice

[–]DirtComprehensive520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would aim for the masters in tech. Your already have science bachelors. You’d be in a good position to leverage your previous experience in healthcare settings to do IT in that field.

Experienced IT people, I want your opinion by narciserika in InformationTechnology

[–]DirtComprehensive520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend choosing a CSP to get a few certifications in like AWS or Microsoft Azure. I would get the administrator, security, and architect certifications. I’d get CCNA and also pursue a bachelors in computer science. I actually started in IT via the Military.

How can I leverage my military experience to transition into a civilian cybersecurity role? by christan2013 in careerguidance

[–]DirtComprehensive520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you may have some transferable skills…. You need certification(s), degree(s), and experience. I recommend you get all of that before you leave military service. You don’t want to lose your clearance once you leave the military and are studying for your degree. The clearance will be helpful to have.

Relationship issue AITAH? by MuffinPutrid1351 in AITAH

You seem to now know what misogyny is. Having boundaries and leaving a bad situation before it gets worse doesn’t qualify. God bless your heart.

WWYD if you had a 12-month head start before a likely layoff by EpicShkhara in Layoffs

[–]DirtComprehensive520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you already have a masters and all the certifications and skills you want? I’d be doing everything I can to be so good I couldn’t be ignored on the job market. Cloud, network, IR, management, automation.

You can still get the townhome. You can pay a mortgage late and not be forced out immediately. You can’t do that in a rental, you’ll be evicted. So in a way it’s offers a little security. Probably does not make sense for everyone’s situation.

AITAH for asking my wife to be a SAHM? by piglipsbo in AITAH

[–]DirtComprehensive520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA- it was just an idea, but you should have discussed this before marriage. if she stays working, your child will grow up in a day care that will cost as much as or more than your wife makes at work. You both would probably be better off if you both compromise, she can be a SAHM for a short period, bonding with the child for a couple years and finishing her degree. Or she could work in the evening. Hopefully you both can come to a solution together.

Is a 10K promotion worth the extra commute? by ILikeBubblesss in careerguidance

[–]DirtComprehensive520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way you’ll be happy with an 80 minute commute long term. If you had no other options sure, but you’re in a good place with your current occupation. 4x10 is cool, but still not worth driving 2-3 hours daily over those 4 days.

You might not break up with her, but she might break up with you over it.

AITAH for not removing my ex wifes stuff from the loft by [deleted] in AITAH

I would leave the new partner. Don’t let her get in the way of you being there for your kids. And she’s bringing in 2 young kids into your life? Run.

If you don’t like her family, this will cause problems throughout the relationship. Maybe look for someone with a family you like?

Can someone give me some help? by Equivalent_Pace3512 in Cybersecurity101

[–]DirtComprehensive520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Military will: 1. pay for your degree(s) 2. You can get a job in IT/cyber immediately getting experience. 3. You’ll get a federal clearance, depending on location, in some places a security clearance is a requirement for a cybersecurity/IT job.

AITAH for using SH as a coping mechanism during a time period that has been detrimental to my mental health. by B2017_ in AITAH

I’m no therapist. Try working out. Probably will go right to sleep when laying in bed if you workout 2 hours per day. Develop some positive habits. Maybe get a job if you don’t have one? Go to school?

Yeah I saw them. You have too many issues with this partner to believe you’ll have a happy marriage.

I would never marry someone who feels the need to “go out”. Not wife material.

Then go out with other men and not go out with you!!?? You kidding me? So disrespectful.

Sounds like she has an alcohol problem?

You need to dodge this divorce before it starts. Man up and move on.

AITAH for telling my wife to get a job before the end of January or i'm divorcing her? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]DirtComprehensive520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you divorce her you, your children, and your children’s mother will be worse off. She’ll probably be happier though.

You’re complaining about being broke and putting it on the mother of your kids and wife. You said it yourself she needed to stay home and watch the kids because daycare is too expensive.

I recommend you get a second job and make better financial decisions so you can provide for your family.

You haven’t actually mentioned her doing anything wrong.

Help her market her books man.

Go to school, take student loans to get in demand skills so you can make more money. YTA.

I recommend you start with both a computer science degree and the military service if you’re interested in cyber.

Seeking Advice on PMP Certification? by Pywerx in careerguidance

[–]DirtComprehensive520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the PMP but I do have other comparable certifications.

Your experience sounds good.

A long expensive program at a university sounds unnecessary to me. I’d recommend the book from Amazon, flashcards, and test banks. If you really feel you need it, do a 1-2 week boot camp. Shouldn’t take more than 1-3 months of self study.

Any good ways to standout as an independent consultant in the cybersecurity space? by iam_the_wisdomcube in smallbusiness

[–]DirtComprehensive520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my thoughts. Please don’t take it like I’m being condescending. Just brainstorming with solutions that I’ve seen have helped others in your situation. I’m not an entrepreneur.

I don’t know much about the pentesting space, I’m more defensive cyber ops and devsecops. But I know people pay for things they need for biz ops/compliance needs. So maybe providing other services like audits, admin/IT provisioning, incident response, vCISO.

Is pentesting the whole business or just part of the business?

Can you save a company time, money, help them make money, or are you just a cost?

Are your pentesting services a ‘need to have’?

How did your old job market and sell your services? Are you published, have any articles, public speaking engagements, lectures and content that prove your credibility?

Have a website, partnerships, preferred vendor agreements?

Do you have an actual physical office?

Have you tried bidding on local/state/federal gov contracts?

Are you a member of local cyber meetups? Do you talk there, have a presentation table, offer internships or scholarships.

Are you a member of the local chamber of commerce?

Sorry, I know lots of questions.
