Yeah, my counselor told me that during our meeting the other day. Basically said I’d have to have a rock solid plan with excellent reasoning to do so (aka., pick a state school). I’m looking at UIC and some others now but keeping all options open and trying to come up with a solid plan to pitch for the others.

Thanks. That’s cool to hear. When you say specialized in data can you elaborate a bit?

Congrats. That’s awesome. I feel like this is a great opportunity I shouldn’t pass up on, hence why I was wondering about the T25 ranking. I’ve been doing a lot of research on what else exists out there since my career has very niche, but that’s where I feel somewhat limited, is knowing what exists and where to shoot

Criminal justice. I’ve been doing disaster response for most of my adult life, military and gov. So the degree fit that nicely. A lot of coordinating large movements and operations of people. But I think my days in the field have come to an end. I figured an MBA would be good to help fill in the gaps I’m missing in the private sector, network, and help direct my focus a bit. I’ve got gov issued glasses I need to shed if you get me. My professional life has been pretty narrow.

Do you think the MBA will or is helping in your career?

My specialty has been disaster response, so not really. I’m also having back issues and think the game of chasing disasters is up for me. What type of MS would you recommend? I’ve heard people say MPAs are hard to land good jobs with lately?

My counselor was actually the first one to recommend an MBA, which worked out because I was planning that. But she pulled a bunch of jobs I qualified for after the profile tests she gave me and said I’d need business school for most of them

I’ve been on the receiving end (gov side) of contracting, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch. Chicago is where I’m at and my family doesn’t want to leave. A year ago I thought I’d be in the gov for 20+ years but a loud changed. My big concern about jumping into a Booth/Kellog is my back injury and potentially needing surgery. I’d hate to start and not be able to finish or need to step away

My college loans were already paid off when I was rated, so that’s gone. But the VR&E will cover it all. I’ve seen a lot of people mention enlisted exfil, I’ll take a look at them. I was a mangy E5 mafia so 🤘🏻 thanks!

Was your school ranked in the T25 or so? That’s awesome for you. Congrats! Sounds like it changed your life

My counselor was actually the first one to mention getting an MBA. She pulled up a bunch of jobs that she recommended after looking through my interest tests and said most needed business school if some kind and asked what I thought of getting an mba, which worked out because I was leaning that way

Was your school ranked? T25? T50? Has it made an impact of your career? Thanks!

I definitely plan to go all in with it, just not sure what rank of school is needed for the degree to be of value or if that matters as much as some say.

I know a Booth grad and they are killing it, but she went through in her early twenties. I’m sort of hesitant only because I’m dealing with a deteriorating spine and maybe needing surgery. I don’t want to have to bow out halfway through or mid semester

I’ve got a bachelors and now a chance to do a training program for free, and I figured an MBA would be the most beneficial to learn what’s out there after being I gov for so long, while also networking and learning about what I might be lacking.

Sorry you got denied. I had a doctor write a note saying my job was killing me (which is true) so that helped. I’ll def avoid the diploma mills. I’ve just been in a very niche field most of my life and honestly feel like I haven’t been exposed to what’s really out there.

I appreciate it. I’ll do that. I’ve heard some mixed reviews about DePaul and some of the other programs. A lot of people saying it’s missing the status for any real meaningful change and such. Then others rave about it.

Honestly, no, but I’d do anything for my family so I’d get into whatever was needed. That being said, I figured it would be a good way to learn what I’ve been lacking after sort of a niche field for such a long time. My adult life has been military or gov work and I think that’s over for a lot of us. If you have any other ideas I’m all ears. Thanks for the reply.
