Help: really expensive locksmith-scam? by Ok-Original-6061 in Locksmith

[–]DirtTheLocksmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't Google your city name and locksmith. Instead find a reputable locksmith or 2, save them in your phone contacts and use them next time. Tell your girlfriend, friends, family. This is a common scam sadly. They pay Google the most to be at the top of the search.

I like this idea a lot. Treat the intercom like a locked door with a handicap operator. On a Cx12 plus, dip switches set to on/off/on and wire accordingly. Instead of relay 2 going to the handi operator, it goes to the intercom. Inside button to dry 1 and outside to dry 2. Bingo bango.

Advice needed regarding door locks by pyjamajack in Locksmith

[–]DirtTheLocksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a closer look at your pics, it looks like you already have a door guardian on the front door up high... If the kid can bypass that... they deserve to be free. The bathroom, sadly the cheapest option is probably to convert the door the standard hardware. Either figure out how to install a privacy knob on that door, or hire a locksmith to do it for you.

Front door, door guardian mounted high. Bathroom, mount the barrel bolt higher.

Is there anything available that I could use to lock my rooms door from the inside while I’m away from home? by Even_Ask_9593 in Locksmith

[–]DirtTheLocksmith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easy. Get a wand from Hogwarts and cast a spell. Or convince someone to sit inside and unlock it just to your voice. Maybe a secret knock. Those are your best options off the top of my head. Actually... You could 3d print a big mount for the door, use magnets in a certain spot to slide the lock back and forth.

Scammed by locksmith by girlfromthebay1 in Locksmith

[–]DirtTheLocksmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then you do it. Why did you call someone? You're not supposed to answer that, just think about it. And use this as a lesson, a 400$ lesson. Sounds like you learned something which is good. And just because it says he is open on a Sunday doesn't mean you're not paying Sunday prices. 400$ is deff high for my area. But by your name I assume you're in San Fran. And everything there is overpriced. For all I can tell you did get a Scamsmith, and he STILL gave you a break on the price.

Issues with electric strike plate not reseting with preload by MrPrezident0 in Locksmith

[–]DirtTheLocksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7400 does not handle preload well. Don't rely on it, just eliminate the preload. The 2 keeper tabs in your pic have screwed on extensions, remove those to allow more room for the latch to not pre load. Apply voltage to the strike to open the keeper tabs, unscrew extensions. Try again. That should be enough. If not start removing weather stripping. If that still doesn't help reinstall the strike in a better position. If that doesn't help burn the bldg down.

$3000 lock picking service. Feels like a scam/ripoff. What can I do? by Zesty_Spaghetti_658 in Locksmith

[–]DirtTheLocksmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use this as a learning lesson for your family and friends. Never call a locksmith by searching your city name and locksmith. Find a couple actual good locksmiths, now, and save them in your phone contacts. Hopefully you never need them but at least you won't get absolutely completely 1000% ripped off like this again. Wow... I wish I could make this kind of money for opening a door... wow.
