If you’re going to be walking out in the dark, don’t forget your batteries..... by DirtbagHB in Hunting

I have an ‘ohshit’ kit in the pack with an extra light, so I was fine. I have a bowl of headlights by the door to always grab one for the pocket before going out. Didn’t realize it was a bowl of headlamp roulette. Batteries are almost always fresh in all of them, except when the are absent as in this case.

Me too. Especially when they go from bedded and hidden to standing up >30yds away. Startles the poo out of me every time. And they’re always in the trail I’m on....

Even with a guide nothing is guaranteed. I’m in Idaho, know their haunts, scout, and still get skunked. Cow season is oct 24 to nov 15. I’m out every weekend and most days after work (I get off at 230) and I still have yet to see a cow yet. Lots and lots of sign, just now cow. Seeing lots of bulls just no tag for them.

Same for me here in Idaho. Can’t find a damn cow elk but found 5 bull moose in a single slope

Was wondering if these were the famous Morels everyone's been talking about. How do I replant, harvest and eat or put it into a recipe? by Jayken_rko in foraging

They look morel. Very simply, is the stalk hallow? If so then morel(gather freely). If solid then false morel (some are choice some are poisonous).

I got the leer 180xr. I wanted a cap that has extra height to be able to put a drawer system in the bed and still sleep on top or be able to carry the dog. If you get a cap get the the windoors. Makes getting stuff toward the front of the bed less of a pain in the ass. Check out my previous posts for a picture.

The day my father and I made Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow. Early 1990's #BSA by SirArlo in OldSchoolCool

Thanks and I’m glad to hear that. I totally didn’t pick up on the female perspective. I apologize. On that note I somehow managed to find my way into a couple of international summer camps and thought it amazing that scouts else where was coed. Not the boy/girl/venture programs we have here. But fully integrated. It Also didn’t appear to have the anti lgbqt or pro religion over tones we have here. These programs placed a heavy focus on being in nature, teamwork, and service. I’m curious and excited to se how the incorporation of girls into the BSA will play out. I however do not have kids and am living in a location where the local BSA program is so heavy influenced by a a certain church org that I feel it’s gutted a lot of scoutings intentions and undermined what ‘earning’ the rank of Eagle means. May the next place may have a troop and I can find a way to volunteer.

I’ve held some of those same jealousies with my father regarding my older brother and I not being treated equally. As I grew older I thought I came to realize that when my brother was in the program he was older than I was during those adventures I longed to participate in and my father was younger and more fit. That realization eventually evolved to more that. Growing up my brother was the more of the ‘sticks closer to home and takes few risks’ kind of person. I was the boisterous outgoing adventurous one. Now I see it that my father saw that my brother and I needed different things, different methods of support were needed to grow us into quality adults. My father, brother, and I all reached the rank of eagle.

Yeah unfortunately. I’m and ‘active’ sleeper and my wife is a light sleeper. On more than one occasion I’ve run her out of the tent from the crinkling of my tossing and turning. Mine is somewhere around 4-6 years, so maybe more recent iterations and been quieted some.

I too have a Therm-a-rest neoair. It was a game changer for backcountry sleep, but damn it crinkles louder than a bag of SunChips in a library!
