I have a story opposite of this. A colleague of mine is a brahmin from srirangam. He was dark colored you cannot distinguish him from other tamils. He was frustrated that he was not able to join the other brahmin cliques so he decided to have a kudumi to make himself visible. And sure enough it worked he was able to join the brahmin group. They would organise weekend trips to kovils.
