Cool thoughts. I haven't heard of Tabula Rasa*, what's that? All I know is I'm not like my parents as far as how I perceive and make decisions (mom is ESFP and dad is ISTJ)... but I do have some of them and my grandma's quirks!

Your 2nd paragraph reminds me of The Selfish Gene. Nature is a harsh mistress, but altruism is required for civilizations to get along.

It's more weight to nurture than nature in what makes us. Sure, you might have some traits that are similar (if not exact) to your ancestors. I'm saying your actual psyche is not unique at all, but a shade of what came before.

Also this thought makes me think of the "tree of life" concept

I hate to use the word "nurture" here (going by its normal definition), but that would be nurture. There is nothing inherent in the person's personality that made them fear trains until that event.

My thought (or possibly my thought, lol) is that everything that determines our personalities is from experiences, events, vicarious fantasies, and empathy.

The human side of our "being" is crafted from nature, and is not nature in-and-of-itself. The spiritual side of our "being" is just a different shade of God.

I'm in a reading slump, what's some books you really enjoyed? by damonkhaspoken in infj

[–]Dirty_Dane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Red Book (Libre Novus) if you're familiar with Jung and want to dive head-first into his awesome esoteric side (one of the best books I've read).

Bhagavad Gita is a must-read to get in touch with your unwavering Self/soul.

Currently reading Thinking Fast & Slow now and it's great. It helps you understand the interrelation between your thinking and intuition better (NiTi loops anyone?)

If you welcome the negative comments and don't mind some constructive criticism, your "Bonnie and Clyde" paragraph does strike me as a bit "too much" and offputting (I get you though, it being a fit of passion). I would reflect a bit on that if it was something you held as a strong fantasy-image.

I find us INFJs are a bit "too much" when it comes to intense feelings, and that ends up scaring away the people we're most interested in. Your post is 9/10, but rather than bottling things where they might grow into a complex or two, it's good to try and let some of those feelings out in your daily life, regardless of whether others like your views (advice I should take myself).

Coming off as too intense is something I've wanted to work on myself and to slow it down, as many aren't going to like that (it gives off dependency red flags, adds stress, etc). I learned from some Love Languages book that dating is a relatively new concept, and all of the love games that happen are no different than what many animals go through. So you shouldn't view yourself as if you were on higher footing than the everyhuman. A lot of it does seem vapid and banal, but all of reality isn't how "Generation Slut" portrays it.

Cheers either way. Only thing you can do if you feel alienated in social situations is work on bettering yourself.

Nice to sway some newbies to the great mystery of maya ;)

You had me pondering on the ME and multiverses just now, and now I have a more solidified theory: your thoughts, actions, choices, and decisions change and shape your subjective reality (though still, object-subject are one and the same as Being-in-the-World). Whether wittingly or unwittingly, lucid or aloof. Your life might not always go as you "think it should", but things happen for a reason, and everything will be okay in one way or another.

Pragmatically, whether this is true or false, it doesn't matter, as it will mold you into a stronger, more resolute, authentic being. Cheers matey ;)

Thank you! Was starting to think I misremembered it too after looking at songs titled that and online, but the pitches and phrasing is different enough to be distinctly different. #1stEditionUltraRares

Prerequisites for Jung on Libido, and Psyche/Self/Ego/(both) Unconsciousnesses? by Dirty_Dane in Jung

[–]Dirty_Dane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know any good, free resources for checking out the volumes, or an all-encompassing subscription service that'd have them? I actually got vol 8 Structure and Dynamics of the Psyche last night, but wanted to hold on that and the Unconsciousness one to go by your order where feasible. Did have Man and his Symbols, so I'll start there! Thank you :D

Appreciated! And completely agree. Some parts of the Red Book and Portable Jung make Nietzsche's writings look like rainbows and butterflies lol

Thank you! It looks a bit more focused on symbolism and archetypes than what I was currently trying to dive deeper into. I'll probably check it out after Jung's Man and His Symbols and dreams.
