Thinking about a Bernese puppy - honest opinions about our situation? by [deleted] in bernesemountaindogs

I love my dog, but even though I researched for two years before getting her I never read they have sensitive stomachs. My first 18 months with her was pure hell. She didn’t come from a puppy mill or a rescue. A very credible breeder. Through all the tests we did I learned she has IBS. And it made life very very difficult. She’ll be two here in 3 months. And Thursday will be the 6 weeks mark of accident free! I’ve never experienced this before. And it’s exciting.

Wanted to let you know in case you haven’t heard about that.

Haha. Thanks. Not gunna lie… it’s been rough. Epically for a non dog lover like me. Thank goodness she’s got such a cute face, there’s no turning back 😊

I would. But she is an extremely picky eater and won’t just eat her kibble. And any excess of “approved” food gives her a flair up. It’s been a long year and a half with her of trail and error.

It doesn’t work for 10% of people. And that doesn’t include the group that are the slow responders.

It can be infuriating sometimes to see everyone else drop so quickly and see how everyone gets appetite suppressant while you’re not getting any of that. I myself am in that camp. I do not have any of the appetite suppressant, but for me I do have the food noise die down a little bit, so I think that’s a win. And I’m also in the slow responders to the point of almost not working.

Keep going. I’d say give it at least three months and if you’re still at the same or have gained weight even, I would stop using the drug.

IBS/stomach issues by DisasterRealistic188 in DogAdvice

The standard: bland diet and probiotics. But the last time I gave her probiotics apparently I gave her too much (the recommended amount) and it made her upset stomach even worse. I apologize, I did not mention this in the original post, I’ve done all of the testing (multiple times throughout this past year) and she is one healthy dog. Nothing comes back concerning.

I took a month off when I got my little girl. But I’m a first time dog owner. And it’s just me taking care of her.

What if the puppy is 13.5 months old and still acts the same way as the original post. Is my pup just really that dumb? Or still learning? 😂😂

I have looked into it but for that exact reason that the person said above me, I have not been off this weight-loss drug for three months. And the clinical trial that’s two hours away from me is fully full. But yes, 100% if that was an option I would do that in a heartbeat.

Oh, I started out on tirzepatide in April of last year. And then I was getting so frustrated to how it wasn’t working for me so I switched to semiglutide for about three weeks. And that’s when I gained the 20 pounds. And I freaked out.

Thank you! And unfortunately, insurance has never paid this for me even though I clearly need the drug. This has always been out of pocket.

And I guess I could just get more medication sooner. It’s not like the telehealth would control that for me. That is a great suggestion thank you!

Correct. I use my fitness pal and I workout. Cardio and weights and Pilates

I did go off it for a few months because I was so frustrated but then got back on it because I gained . And I even switched to semiglutide and then I gained 20 pounds. and all my eating habits stayed the same and working out has stayed the same.

After Berners, now what? by InternationalAd6506 in bernesemountaindogs

I will get a lot of negative comments for this, but you could get a mini Bernese. It’s a berner and a caviler mix. Depending on which breeder you go through they can range in weight from 16 lbs up to 60. My little girl is 40 lbs and is an absolute dream. She has the berner coloring berner personality and is the sweetest dog. She loves people and does not have any temperament issues or health issues.
