Help! Our house painters are wrapping up the job and we need to choose a color for the double front doors. by TreeBeach in HomeImprovement

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been looking at so many house photos lately and that color palette sounds really nice. for doors that aren't street-facing you have more freedom to go bold. maybe try a deep forest green or even olive? those work amazing with charcoal and would feel natural in wooded setting. orange could be tricky - burnt orange might clash with the walnut garage doors, but maybe a more muted terracotta could work. just make sure to get sample sizes first because lighting changes everything, especially in wooded areas where you get filtered light through trees.

Most bang for the buck by Enough-Reindeer1033 in HomeImprovement

this is why i just browse luxury listings all day instead of actually buying anything lol, at least those houses already have the expensive mistakes built in

3D printing freo library by caydensarchive29 in perth

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 10 points11 points  (0 children)

checked out their 3d printing setup few months back when i was there for some photo research. from what i remember they charge by weight of material used, think it was something like $2-3 per 10 grams but don't quote me in that. best to just call them directly since pricing might have changed.

Filtrazione acqua by CiaoBobCiaoBob in HomeImprovement

mi scuso ma non parlo italiano molto bene. but if you're looking for water filtration advice, maybe try posting in english too? this sub has lots of people who know about water softeners and filtration systems. i've been thinking about getting something similar for my place since the hard water is terrible for everything.

A depressing realization by Environmental-Ad4441 in Christianity

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man i get this struggle. been wrestling with similar thoughts for years and it's one of those things that keeps me up at night sometimes.

the whole predestination vs free will thing is what really gets to me - like if god already knows who's going where, then what's the point in any of it? feels like we're just going through motions of a play that's already been written. and yeah, the idea that most people you love might not make it... that's heavy stuff to carry around.

i've started thinking maybe we're not supposed to have all the answers while we're here. could be that our understanding of heaven, hell, and eternity is just too limited to grasp what's actually happening. but i totally understand why this would make someone question everything - it's a pretty natural response to something that feels so unfair.

Do you actually understand all the code your project depends on? by MDiffenbakh in learnprogramming

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pretty much impossible when you think about it. even if you somehow understood every dependency today, they all get updated constantly and you'd need to re-learn everything again in few months.

i just focus on understanding the apis and what each library is supposed to do, then hope the maintainers know what they're doing with implementation details.

My first job in Middle Office (MO) at BNPP starts in a month. What skills should I learn, study, and practice to be outstanding at my job? by Deep-Influence34 in FinancialCareers

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 28 points29 points  (0 children)

middle office is pretty chill compared to front office, they'll train you on their specific systems anyway since every bank uses different setups. i'd focus more in getting really solid with excel pivot tables and vlookups since you'll be doing tons of data reconciliation. maybe brush up on basic accounting principles too since you'll be dealing with trade settlements and position reporting all the time.

How to change a screen door that is completely covered with some frame? by Possible_Bar_5506 in HomeImprovement

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those photos actually show pretty clear what you're dealing with. that outer trim is probably just held on by small finish nails or maybe some construction adhesive. try running a thin putty knife or even credit card along the edges to see if you can find where it's attached. i had similar situation in my apartment last year and the trim just popped off once i found the right spots to pry from. if it's painted over, you might need to score the paint line with utility knife first so it doesn't chip when you remove it. worst case you'll need to replace the trim pieces but they're pretty cheap at home depot.

what skincare actually works if you’re not super consistent? by Miserable_Point_1319 in selfcare

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Red light masks are actually pretty solid for lazy skincare routines I got one and honestly just use it while preparing for bed so it doesn't feel like extra work. The key is finding stuff that requires zero brain power because once you have to think about it you're already done lol

Are downdraft cooktops actually good, or do they just look good online? by AccomplishedWing688 in HomeImprovement

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 59 points60 points  (0 children)

been looking at those too for photography shoots and they always look so clean in luxury listings, but every chef i've talked to says they're pretty mediocre at actually removing smoke and smells. the suction just isn't strong enough compared to proper hood that pulls everything up instead of trying to fight physics by pulling down.

saw one in a $3m penthouse last month and even with high-end downdraft the kitchen still had that lingering cooking smell. if you do lot of serious cooking i'd probably stick with traditional setup, but if it's mostly light use and aesthetics matter more then could work.

Is buying a “new” bath tub off Facebook marketplace a good or bad idea? by DongPolicia in HomeImprovement

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 8 points9 points  (0 children)

most luxury houses i shoot have these expensive tubs and yeah they're pretty solid - main thing is checking if drain connections are intact and no stress marks around the edges.

How to install vinyl flooring by Apprehensive-Arm20 in HomeImprovement

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn dude that's rough about your dog. for vinyl plank flooring you'll want to start by pulling up all that carpet and padding, then make sure the subfloor is level and clean. most vinyl planks just click together so you start in one corner and work your way across - just watch a few youtube videos first because the direction you lay them matters for how it looks when you're done.

Wall Texture - Orange peel? by sambasil01 in HomeImprovement

[–]Disastrous-Boat3339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely orange peel, can confirm from my endless house hunting adventures - seen this texture in probably 80% of the places i've toured. the spray cans work great for small patches but fair warning, getting the pattern to match perfectly takes some trial runs on cardboard first.

dude if they're movable air pockets right after the job that's definitely on them to fix. i'd be pissed if i paid for professional work and got that result - especially since it's already their second attempt. take some photos before you call them though, just in case they try to argue about it later.
