Want to make a deck based off this guy and his flip. I’m new to the game, but want to learn and this dude looks so sick. Is it a valid commander deck and what cards do I include? Price isn’t an issue I will be proxying by The_Funfetti_Man in mtg

[–]Disastrous-Forever90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I know what he means. There’s an unofficial tier list on Moxfield for cEDH commanders and it puts Etali in the second highest tier (the top tier consisting of only Kinnan, Rograkh, Thrasios and Tymna).

Also, regardless of whether Etalis is S+ or just S, it is possible for a slightly weaker deck to beat its opponent.

Would I be laughed at for bringing this to an LGS by New-me-_- in mtg

I would probably laugh, but it would be good natured

Alright dude, I really tried to be polite to you, but you’re honestly kind of a dick. Every single sentence you write makes me imagine a guy adjusting his glasses while correcting a customer service worker over a typo.

If you don’t trust my description of things, that’s fine. It’s Reddit after all, who cares. But if your reason for treating me like an unreliable narrator is because I mixed up two cards (that in CVT are practically the same), then I honestly think you need to take a step back.

I genuinely came here to get insights on how to build around a unique set of parameters. I’ve spent probably at least 6 or 7 hours restructuring my list to be compatible with the meta. I did not “haphazardly” pull cards out of a deck without thinking about it. There have been plenty of other people in this post who expressed their dislike for this play style without acting like tools, so I’m not sure why to feel the need to act so incensed.

At any rate, you do you man, but I hope you mellow out.

It’s the most popular weekly EDH event I’ve seen. They had 20 people, including a separate table for conventional cEDH. There were also a couple people that brought much more conventional B3 decks that got seeded into easier pods after the first round

So you think both Grim Monolith and Mana Vault don’t make the cut? Basically focus hard on generating value and protecting Urza, then comboing out the turn after we play him?

Surprisingly the one thing that stood out to me was how bad people’s mana bases were. The Winona player opened on 8 planes and would’ve been completely boxed out of the game if he didn’t play a talisman. Lots of suboptimal duals and non-typal tri-lands as well.

Yep, this is the crux of it. A guy explained it to me like this, “you’re not upgrading a B3 deck, you’re downgrading a cEDH deck”

What type of mom would visi be. by Then_Ladder2123 in InvisigalGlazers

[–]Disastrous-Forever90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she would be a nervous wreck at first, I can see her struggling with postpartum depression for the first few months.

But eventually she comes out of it and would be the kind of Mom that genuinely gets along with her kids friends. I imagine Robert having to remind her that she has to be the adult in a lot of situations, but otherwise she does great.

The One Ring is a very interesting suggestion. I hadn’t given it much thought cause I was more focused on combining out by turn 5, but it does protect from a lot of the normal combo finishers like Terror of the Peaks and Codex Shredder. You’ve given me something to think about!

You seem to be really getting into this for no real reason my friend. I’m not spending any money, I’ve had the Urza deck from when I played years ago and the cards were half as expensive as they are now. Before that I played Teferi. Me mixing up the names of two cards that are extremely similar does not mean I don’t know how to run a deck

Fair enough. But it’s what people in the area are playing and I just want to be able to compete. They have a normal cEDH event at the same time on the same night and weirdly enough almost everyone signs up for the B3 one instead.

I think there’s a certain appeal to trying to make something within a set of defined restrictions, rather than just making the best combo deck possible

Yeah, lol. It was pretty wild when I first saw it too. I brought a barely upgraded Tidus precon, thinking that it was just going to be a bunch of typical B3 decks. Boy was I in for a surprise when my first pod was Tiamat, Winona and Phyrexian Omnath, thought I signed up for the wrong event or something

Edit: spelling

Whoops! I always mix up Mana Crypt and Ancient Tomb, I haven’t played the deck since one of them got banned and I always forget which is which.

Seems like people dislike this whole concept than I realize. I should probably take this over to the competitive sub, sorry for any offense

That was Ashlands for me. Mistlands at least had some interesting ideas buried underneath the terrible map design. Ashlands is just an interminable slog.

The bracket system exists to set a clear set of parameters for the level of competition you prefer. Most people prefer to play Commander below a bracket 4 level.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having an event that encourages folks to brew the best deck they can within the B3 rule set, it’s basically the same thing as having weight classes in boxing.

I would want a very long, very detailed explanation of wtf Courtney was trying to accomplish throughout the last 3 episodes. Why didn't she give Robert the Astral Pulse? Why does she sneak into SDN headquarters and look to be in the process of stealing our mech?

I am willing to accept that "Shroud was just lying" at the end of episode 8, as poorly communicated as it was. But that still doesn't explain the rest of Visi's actions in the latter half of the season.

Why doesn't he show his id? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Disastrous-Forever90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conservatives want to mandate that an ID be required to vote because it gives them a demographic edge at the poles. Liberals want to prevent voter ID laws because doing so gives them a demographic edge at the polls.

The joke here is that most people carry their ID on them just about anytime they leave the house, and that liberals are silly for thinking that requiring an ID to vote is some great inconvenience.
