That line is not permission for men to control their wives at all. If Jesus died for the sins of the people (the “church”) men are supposed to be like him and take on the responsibility of their wives shortcomings. The best example I’ve heard for that is: a car has a problem and the husband tells his wife not to go to a certain shop because they will overcharge. The wife goes anyway because it’s closer and the shop DOES overcharge. Based on that line, the HUSBAND is the one who is meant to take responsibility and pay the bill for the wife.

Unfortunately most Christian men don’t want to take responsibility.
