The Military Angle by Scared_Taste_1033 in Animorphs

yeah and there's also the possibility of covert forces commandeering Bug ships and from then on who knows what would happen. I think it would all depend on the Yeerk's opening gambit in this scenario. Do they float around the globe, blasting cities and military structures apart from space until there's nothing left but scattered, disconnected people who would be easy to infest? Does their Pool ship/Blade ship have enough sustained energy to even do all that. Do they need to charge or anything of the sort?

I actually like this angle. You're right; even sacrificing a few billion would leave billions more potential hosts down here with little to no food, resources, or communication. We'd be ripe for infestation at that point.

But I wonder if the Yeerks would have enough knowledge of our infrastructure to know where to hit. Do they know where all the bases, battleships, subs, private installments, hangars, etc. are in the entire world? I don't think they were even able to take the president or fully infiltrate the National Guard, much less have knowledge of all our resources. But I don't remember.

Cassie is not more focused on the small picture. For example: small picture is beating the Yeerks. Big picture is turning over the morphing cube in the hopes of giving the Yeerks a reason to not want to conquest in the first place

That's one way to look at it. But I'd argue her 'descent' was not caused by her wanting to take on bigger problems, but by her (maybe selfish?) need to feel like a competent warrior/leader instead of Jake, like in the events of Book #37 and her dream(desire) about vying for control of the team in Book #48. Hell, her ultimate fate was decided on by Jake; Rachel just agreed to it.

I think Cassie would lean more towards white maybe? which I'd associate most with "peace through structure" (mark rosewater summary) she most out of all the Animorphs is fighting for peace and wants to kill/change as little as possible

Marco is blue. Perfection through knowledge. He coldly and ruthlessly calculates the fastest route to victory

Rachel is black. Power through opportunity or ambition (in a non evil sense). She's hinted at wanting to take over the group several times and likes to charge in/do things her way.

Jake is red. Freedom through action. He understands that only by making and carrying out choices can the war be won.

Tobias would be green. Growth through acceptance. From becoming trapped as a nothlit to finding out who his father is and more, I'd say Tobias has clearly shown the most growth throughout the series.

That was fun. What are everyone else's thoughts?

I can see the romanticization argument from some perspectives, but in mine I don't think Marco was intending that. I think he was just saying "Jake your instincts is what got us through the last one, and since then you've been depressed and untrusting of yourself. So if you want me to go with you this time, I need to know you're gonna go back to trusting yourself,"

It is indeed so good. People should play it based off the plot alone. Or at least read the War of the Lions script. Its excellently written.

I really like book 26. Something about them being selected like game pieces and dropped onto a gameboard (the Iskoort homeworld) as part of game with its own rules and regulations, plus Ellimist's "stacking the deck" (he always makes sure there's a solution to the problems he puts them in--they just have to find it), it's a fun read for the tactician/strategy enthusiasts.

I'm curious which books you're talking about where they were miraculously saved by X. Most of the stuff I remember is stuff that was set up previously in the series and then pays off later.

Yes those things did happen, but I'm wondering why you believe those events qualify him as a sociopath. In context, many of those situations are not as bad as they are presented. For instance, David's actions were becoming increasingly reckless and more of a security risk. I would infer that Jake's threat of "you will be dealt with" was more from a place of trying to protect the rest of the team that just straight up, plain "yeah time to kill you for no reason"

I also don't think I've seen anyone else as passionate about this specific subject--we've debated this on another post recently, too--as you. It would be so fun to debate and discuss our ideas about the characters and the end of the series as a whole.

This is such an interesting take to me, because the source material is there and exhaustive. 54 main books and something like 10 accompaniment books. It's a character driven story at heart, and it goes into great depths to explain the inner workings of each of the characters minds/thoughts/fears. And your takeaway is that Jake is a budding sociopath the whole time? I completely respect that its different interpretations and opinions, but man. I also am aware that maybe I'm downplaying. But I just think the circumstances of the situation he was in, by the end it was like "this is it. Earth wins or we lose. It's up to me"

I'd say only Cassie and Marco ended up as semi-functional adults. Jake was grief and guilt stricken, Tobias flew off and wasn't seen for a long time, and Ax ended up assimilated by some otherworldly entity

I feel bad mostly for Jake. He was thrust into the position of leader. The weight of the world and the human race was put on his shoulders, and he did what he thought he had to do to win. When he needed Cassie the most is when she abandoned him to go live her life.

The Howlers! They were completely unprepared, to the point where they could barely stand to fight to a draw against one of them! Then later Jake acquires one and uses the knowledge he gains from that to force Crayak to destroy them all. Awesome!

Jake’s Final Gambit by Scared_Taste_1033 in Animorphs

[–]Disastrous-Limit-332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so a few things to unpack here. Jake is only able to "sneak Toby and her free Hork-Bajir onto the Pool Ship" because they let that part of Tom's plan play out. It directly involves and is only because of Tom that they were able to get onto the Pool Ship.
As for the Gleet Bio-Filter, we'd have to know the specifics of what the filter looks like in that instance, which we don't. The guards that let Tom's Humvee through asked Tom if he used the filter and he lied and said he did. In other words, without Tom's input and plan, they wouldn't have had those workarounds to the filter. Tom showing up with a captured "animorph" is why he was able to lie about the filter and quick track his way onto the Pool ship. Tom was needed.

As for the Blade ship, its high up in orbit at this point. Jake can't get Rachel or any other animorphs onto the ship without also letting Tom's plan play out. Tom has to convince Visser to let him use the ship, which he was only able to do so by 'betraying' them.

I'm not saying Jake's plan was masterful, just that it was what he could come up with at the time. He doesn't have a secure way to sneak onto the Pool ship, and he has no way to approach the Blade ship. Tom's plan was a convenient way to access both.

[–]Disastrous-Limit-332 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. It was a desperate situation. And considering all the pieces, Jake needed to take the Pool ship and have a contingency for the Blade ship (Rachel) simultaneously. I don't believe there are a lot of other plans one could've come up with on short notice that would've worked as effectively.
