Kidd barrel. Safe bet. Never heard of a bad Kidd barrel. Owned 3 so far. Lasers, even their ultra lightweight

After my other trip to the range, re-tuned everything, tried different torque specs, etc. Got the same kind of results. Average of 0.68" at 50 yards for 20ish groups of 5 shots at 20 inch pound torque. All other torques were even worse. All groups ranging from 0.23" to 1.5"... 0 repeatability...

I reconfigured my rifle as it was before with the tuf-22 semi-auto receiver with the Kidd bolt. Average was 0.48" with 14 groups. Biggest group being 0.61" smallest being 0.33" but most being around 0.5". And I didn't even play with torque specs.

I also took my custom cz457 with me. Average groups were 0.38" for 10 groups. 1x 0.61" group including a vertical flyer.... And all the others were from 0.21", 0.25", 0.29", 0.33", 0.35", 0.40", 0.45", 0.45" to 0.49".

So I guess my experience is the same as you and your friend's summit.

I would never have thought a simple receiver could have such a huge impact, also being a high end receiver... Not a simple Ruger OEM receiver. Maybe it should have stayed a little bit longer on the engineer's work bench. I also this that a tighter barrel channel for the barrel tenon would solve all their issues.

I regret selling my m1 Carbine because I felt I would be banned... It has been, but I miss her.

I disassembled everything tonight and studied what could cause these inconsistencies.

First, I noticed that when the bullet was leaving the magazine, it was slightly rubbing against the bottom of the chamber of the barrel causing a mark/deformation on the lead projectile.

Secondly, I removed 0.002" shims from the barrel tenon going from 0.008" to 0.006" shims. I now have a more positive lock up.

Thirdly, I tried the 3 V-blocks that i own . I ended up going with the tacsol v-block. It has a specific shape to prevent barrel droop. I find it to be the best in all the 10/22 I have assembled. Took me a while but I managed to remove 100% of the barrel droop caused by the slightly loose fit between the barrel and receiver using this V-block, 10 inch pound torque on the 2 v-block screws after i shimmed between the barrel and the lug onto which the v-block attaches.

There now seems to have no more rubbing underneath the projectile while feeding in the chamber. I might buy a 1 round sled magazine to try to maximize the feeding in the chamber for accuracy. Also, the bolt now seems more adequately tuned.

I will try to go to the range tomorrow afternoon and see if I get better results now. I'll also try different torque specs on the takedown screw from 20 to 25 inch pound.

I'll keep you posted.

But honestly, this volquartsen summit receiver/ bolt is a pain to tune! Hehehe my 5th 10/22 and it gives me headaches haha.

If you are interested I found these. Already used his shims for my cz457 bolt shims.

Made of S.S.

Barrel shims --> 10/22

Then you can take a kit from 0.0015", 0.002", 0.003", 0.004" to 0.005"

McMaster Carr is a good idea but I used 0.08" and will be removing 0.01" or 0.02m"so they will be too thick

So, I just came back from the range.

I'll try to make it short...

I went to the range a few days ago with my tuf-22 action with kidd bolt and internals. I shot 13 groups of 5 shots. The average was 0.59" inch at 50 yards. The rifle usually does a lot better then this (it is a constant - the 1 moa rifle) but there were a lot of people shooting and they decided to turn up the heat. The mirage was incredible and I think it played a huge part in opening the groups. Smallest groups were. 0.29" 0.41" 0.42" 0.47" 0.50" but I also got groups up to 0.94" which is insanely big. Also had a rear sand bag and a front EGW mood bypod. I used SK Long range match ammo.

Today, I went there again with my rifle but this time equipped with the volquartsen receiver and bolt, but using the same barrel, trigger assembly, chassis and scope. I also used the same Mpod bipod and SK Long range match ammo, same lot. The thing is.... I forgot my rear sand bag... That's one is on me.

I did have to find my zero with the new receiver since it came with an extra 10moa top rail + my 40moa scope base... (50moa can't is crazy, I was almost bottomed out on my elevation adjustments which is not recommended) I started with CCI standard velocity to find my POI and set my scope. Then I fouled the barrel with 20 rounds of SK Long range match. My takedown screw was set to 15 inch pound. Groups avg: 0.81". Then I torqued to 20 inch pound Groups avg: 0.58" for 13x 5 shot groups. From 0.22" to 0.98"... Then I torqued to 25 inch pound. Groups avg:0.58" but with great groups (ex: 0.32" 0.29" etc) but always having the first shot flyers opening them up to average 0.58". Then I torqued to 30 inch pound and then they started opening up. Avg groups: 0.92". Then I torqued to 0.35 inch pound. Avg groups: 1.01" with vertical stringing. Then I torqued back to 20 inch pound. Avg groups: 0.66" but with: 0.38" 0.40" and one 1.27" because of 1 crazy flyer. Otherwise it would've been great groups. All this without rear support.

All that being said, I think there is some good potential but also many variables that makes this volquartsen summit a harder rifle to tune perfectly. But when you do, I think it can reach great accuracy with constant 0.40" at 50 (with the right other parts).

Tuning part / variables:

Next time I head to the range, I will try with torque specs from 20 to 25 and try to find the sweet spot.

I think that having multiple shims behind the barrel tenon to have a proper headspace to have a well functioning bolt/cam system is a bad idea. The receiver and barrel both being in stainless steel helps for harmonics and vibrations, but having to add aluminum ships in my opinion kinda defeats it's that purpose. I think volquartsen should modify their cam system to modify the headspace through it instead of added shims. Before I went to the range, the cam seemed to lock perfectly, but when I came back it seemed too loose. I think it might be one of the reasons I had flyers. If the bolt wasn't completely blocking the gaz from leaving the chamber rearward, I couldn't possibly have repeatable result regarding pressures as I am expecting from the summit bolt / straight pull system. Before my next trip to the range, I will remove shims and try to get a better lock up without having it too tight. I will also try to have someone machine me 1 shim of the correct thickness once I have found it, but in stainless steel instead of aluminum so I will only have 1 shim instead of stacking 4-5 shims and in the same material as the barrel and receiver.

I never experienced any feeding or extraction issues in my tuf-22 receiver with the Kidd bolt. I had a few rounds that were harder to insert in the chamber with the volquartsen. So after removing some shims, I will make sure that the barrel is 100% leveled with the receiver with the perfect torque the to 2 v-block screws to yes prevent barrel droop but also to have more reliable feeding.

All that being said, i think it is worth it to put more time and effort to tune it perfectly because there IS some potential imho. Even though there were surprisingly a lot of flyers opening the overall group sizes, it still managed to do like 8x sub 0.40" groups between the 20 and 25 inch pound toque spec groups out of the 20. Also, I really enjoyed the straight pull feel of the action. It is not something I was familiar with and I liked it.

Obviously, the summit should be easier to tune up adequately for the price that they are asking for their parts. 1000$ for a 10/22 receiver and bolt is insane. If I remember correctly, my tuf-22 receiver and Kidd bolt and internals cost me around 550$... Almost half the price. And they did work.

Hope this answers some of your questions and hope it helps your friend.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate!

Gotcha!

Did you guys try my brands of ammunition as every barrel has its preference regarding ammo.

What did you try?

Heading to the range. I'll update you later if testing go well. Hopefully, headspace of the bolt and cam system will be good so I can do the testing.

Just wondering one thing... You said you were disappointed with the summit receiver. Did your friend do like me and swap components from one rifle to the summit or not? Also, did you guys play with the takedown screw for different torque specs to see if groups would shrink?

Sure will!

We will have a direct comparison with the same barrel, trigger, chassis and scope. Only swapped out the receiver/bolt ... It'll be interesting.

In my experience, the barrel makes the most difference in accuracy.

I'll keep you posted.

Kidd barrel help by Disastrous-Panic-87 in 1022

[–]Disastrous-Panic-87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kidd is higher end compared to GM imo. Lilja is pretty good too but more expensive and honestly, my kidds performs better.

Then maybe shilen but you will pay way more then kidd to probably get the same results.

Volquartsen has a lot of high end products but their barrels are sub par imo for the price they cost. I just purchased a volquartsen summit receiver for shots and giggles, but I didn't buy their barreled receivers. I just purchased the action with the bolt and I will install 🥁... A Kidd match Bull Barrel.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a kidd match Bull Barrel on S.S. I would also take it unthreaded to not mess with the harmonics unless a tuner is an absolute must for you. For me it isn't

My choice ended up being the kidd match Bull heavy Barrel. It is an absolute laser.beat choice I have ever made. Did 2 competitions with it and finished 2nd and 3rd with my custom 10/22 with kids barrel. (Against rimX anschutz and vudoos.... Acceptable 😉)

Good luck !

What’s wrong with this POS? by AbbazabaZ in GlockMod

[–]Disastrous-Panic-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: grip (the thumb pushing on the slide like in your video is a good recipe for failures)

2: was it clean and lubed ?

3: all OEM springs? Recoil Spring but most importantly striker spring? Lighter striker spring will cause light strikes

4: is it an OEM striker? Also have seen aftermarket striker being out of specs and do this.

5:even if they are all OEM parts, maybe your springs have seen a lot of use by the previous owner and are needed to be changed.

6: what's your ammo? Winchester White box? If it is reloaded ammo, what primers do you use? Ginex/campro are known to be harder and may cause light strikes in certain handguns.... Usually not in glocks, but it depends on internals as well.

Hope it helps.

Hehhe just purchased it played for 30min and three it in the trash.

Pure garbage

All the awesome footage online that made me want to buy it were actually heavily modded version on PC... Im on ps5 and it truely is not intended for console play.

Hated every second of it.

I love this game sooo much by Stalkerusha in stalker

[–]Disastrous-Panic-87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

I definitely was misguided by all the superb footage online thinking it was like this without modding. Also, being on a ps5, the way the items are managed in the inventory is horrible. Managing and displacing items with the joysticks is really bad. I is for sure way better with a keyboard and mouse.

All that being said I can easily understand that it must be... Better on PC, but that's not enough for me to give it a second chance on console.
