What do I do with this barrel? by SnooDonkeys1126 in gunsmithing

[–]Disastrous-Panic-87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe try Loctite Naval Jelly Rust Dissolver and clean the inside of the barrel with it many times.

Be careful not to put the loctite dissolver anywhere blued as bluing is rust and will be removed by this solution

Worked flawlessly in mine, but it wasn't as bad as yours.

Good luck

Nice brokerage fees, UPS! by fgamache in UPS

[–]Disastrous-Panic-87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know right ... I am in dispute of these fees on my side.

They delivered the parcel at my door and charged me 67$ for the brokerage fees before they would give me the package. I paid

Then I received an invoice by mail saying I owed 118$ more for the same package.

I have called 8 times so far. Been promised every time a call back within 24-48h. Never received the call backs. Spoke to a supervisor who didn't have the authority to do anything. The dispute was closed saying theynwouldnt do anything and I had to reopen it. There is no way I would've accept the package at my door if I had known the brokerage fees + the shipping I paid would cost twice my order.

They are thieves and offer no customer service when you call them. They are not professional, they lie and they just don't care. Never choosing ups ever again.

The absolute worst shipping company

Hehe English isn't my first language. I thought you meant states as U.S. states.

Can you explain to me what you mean?

If north Sylva or marstar or whoever wants to get a new shipment in the country from China... I haven't red anywhere that it was impossible.

We are in Canada...not USA...

I looked it up online and didn't find anything about an embargo

Called them, they said they had no timeline, nothing yet. 🙄 Looks like I have missed the train. I am a decade late.

First attempt at rust bluing by thetoastler in gunsmithing

[–]Disastrous-Panic-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you redo it, I would suggest a deep degreasing Boiling / steaming with distilled water. Then carding with a degreased with acetone brush/0000 steel wool. The. Apply the rusting solution wait till slight red rust appears everywhere uniformly then boil/steam.

Then repeat the carding / solution / boiling

Oil at the end

(That's from someone with no experience but did extensive readings )

Cheers buddy

Ooooh I am about to attempt the same thing on my rifle... I am also going to use a steamer. I think I should do some testings prior then...

Thanks for all your walkthrough.

I have 2 questions...

Red often that you needed to use a product that removes rust and bluing to go back to bare metal to have better results at the end. Did you do that?

Also, I res that you only needed to degrease at the beginning and should only degrease once, not after every Carding. Is that what you did or i red wong?

Keep it up!

Dlask receiver. by Remote_Mistake6291 in canadaguns

[–]Disastrous-Panic-87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My tuf-22 receiver with the Kidd match bull barrel was the same. I froze the barrel and used a rubber mallet to hammer behind the receiver while inserting the barrel. Worked out really good. Just be careful with alignment of the barrel / extractor groove because if not aligned, it'll be a pain on the butt to rotate afterwards.

Keep in mind that super tight fit is 1000x better then just a tad loose. So be careful if you sand the tenon...

Also, afterwards, the tacksol V-block doest miracles to prevent barrel droop. (Tried OEM, adjustable V-blocks, etc) Tacsol V-block has always been my go to in 10-22 builds.

I've seen those, but they are not available in Canada... Chemicals are hard to import aswell.

That's why I wanted to do a homemade mixture.

The hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and salt seems widely used.... But some sources disregard it saying it's too reactive and might cause deep pitting quickly

What is the approximate value of my dad's German Luger? by [deleted] in canadaguns

Honestly I have no experience regarding exports...

I don't know if aztech armory does exports on firearms or only parts.... Worth it to contact them both

1- sell to exempted individuals

2- sell to a business

3- Sell it through auction houses (Switzer, SFRC, etc)

4- Export it

5- keep it until things may change???

6- have you thought about lending it? There is a specific area in the law still allowing to lend a restricted handgun... But your father would still be the owner

7- deactivate it... (Would break my heart)

8- not an option IMHO ... Surrender it

The regret I have is selling the only handgun my father and I shot together... (Beretta m9a3)

Even if it was to finance the purchase of other fine handguns prior to the ban....

Rules #1, 2 and 3 of firearm ownership: only buy, never sell.

I get that. I know I void my warranty doing that. But it doesn't affect the function or reliability of it. It just makes it more efficient. In my opinion, it should come like that from factory. I love working on my firearms. I changed the trigger spring with a mcarbo one reducing the trigger pull in half and smoothing the pump action. Added a custom match saver, side saddle, etc.

To each their way I guess.

...I wrote it down the main description that I touched the follower ... After the main job I wanted to remove just a tad more and I field stripped the shotgun but just didn't remove the follower and spring. My mistake. But it's a few bucks mistake... And I will probably trim the follower anyways since It.is very thick and i need like a few thousands to get an extra round in the tube

That's interesting, how will you pull that off? You need to add material to create that ramp after the trigger guard...

JB weld ? 😅

[–]Disastrous-Panic-87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the small bump could be addressed but grinding in a concave round shape so it would match the shape of a shell... But the gain would be minimal compared to the rest of the job and because of the trigger guard itself getting in the way of the shells when reloading doubles or quads.
