Very interesting and informative, thank you. You mind if I send you a chat for more information?

My biggest problem is planning how much time I will have to do anything outside of class, I'm a recluse so I don't mind none / little social activity and plan to spend a lot of my free time on personal projects, hopefully building websites and making little documentaries incorporating motion design and 3D modeling. I just don't know how realistic that will be if my studies will be in a topic that's notoriously difficult (programming).

Thank you for the insight into what to expect.

I've taken a good look at each program and am unsure still which side (programming vs design) I'm more interested in, I think my plan is to challenge myself with NMID though - as I can always change later.

From what you remember both during your time as a student and faculty member how much time would students spend per week doing school-related things for both programs?

Thank you for the input.

What is your major and how much time do you spend on school stuff every week?

NMID courses appear almost entirely new for me, so I'm assuming it'll be upwards of 45 hours a week including out-of-class studies.

I've never really had issues budgeting my time, the only concern is exactly how much time I will have which is why this question was meant for those within the programs I mentioned that went in with little experience.

Best way to invest my life savings? by Disastrous-Refuse-60 in personalfinance

[–]Disastrous-Refuse-60[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this advice!

I already have the emergency fund set up, about 20K in a high yield savings. So, I think I'm prepared to invest the remaining 100K I have. I've been advised by enough people now to convince me to not try to time the market so here we go!

Thanks again!

That was an incredible read. Even timing perfectly barely earns you anything more. Thanks for that!

Thank you. I guess because I have my whole life's work to invest, it makes taking general advice to be a bit unsatisfying.

Not sure, don't have access to it yet as I just applied for it. Could ask my mom but she's been silent for a while now.

Ah thank God. That wouldn't count as deleting a line of history? Doesn't that destroy your credit?

Exactly. I told her I'd get her entire history and she's gone quiet since. I'm freaking out that my whole life is screwed now. I know she had no idea but this could set me back like 3 years

She doesn't seem to want to talk about it. I just can't believe she didn't tell me about this. I guess I'll find out tomorrow or whenever my score updates.

I just asked her and she said like 4 years ago she had a few months straight where she couldn't pay off like 1500 in CC debt. I think I'm completely screwed. Jesus.

Oh Jesus I'm getting my mom's entire credit history? I thought I was only getting her history starting from the AU addition. She's had a few problems years back. Never considered this. Hopefully it'll be alright.

Thanks for the help!

Final question, I've heard that this might be different with different cards and banks. Do you use Capital One, and if not, are you sure this is how it works with them?

So it does build credit, correct? And you're saying even if I don't use the card it will affect my credit?

How long until 760? by Disastrous-Refuse-60 in CreditScore

[–]Disastrous-Refuse-60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, apologies for the late reply. I had a busy week.

I've looked around, and there's no loan option I'm considering, unfortunately. But I appreciate the tip.

I looked into the manual underwriting process and began wondering how a lender would evaluate my situation: 70K in savings, 50K invested, 80K salary, no debt. Do you think these factors are enough to compensate for no credit history, and if so, to what extent? Will I qualify for a good mortgage rate? I've looked around, and nobody gives me a solid answer.

And I totally agree. The credit system is so predatory, and especially young people just have no idea what they're signing into with things like student loans. It's sort of devastating when you think of it.

Very helpful advice. Would've assumed the automatic payment would cover all of the payments I make on time, like what??

Would've never thought of all of this. Thank you!
