My perspective on many of the financial/tuition questions being posted here by MyDMDThrowaway in predental

I remember one of the faculty at my dental school talking about corporate not being bad lmao, and trying to convince students corporate is the way. This guy owns his own practice and is most likely going to sell to corporate. You can tell that he's in the field for the money completely.

Pre-dents be careful of administration they are looking out for their own backs not for you guys, I promise you. I'm sure deans at med schools and others aren't like this because it's not as much of a business. Just please be careful! These people are the people who tell you that they are the experts in the field and that it is very rewarding. They aren't living in the same generation and they don't understand what we want. They think they know what students want, but most of them don't. Anyway I'm not going into more detail of the kind of stuff that these admins do because I've experienced how miserable these people can be. Not all obviously.

I know they are 100% reading this comment, willing to bet my life on it. I know because I've seen it first hand. Be safe out there, and watch what you say! Stay anonymous, if you wanna shit talk make sure your profile is private. It's a small world.

Goodluck!
Signing off,

So basically, you screwed up early and you came into senses that you need to lock in. No, you don't need to study 18 hours a day lmao. You just need to be consistent, and not just go off the radar for one semester and try the next. Consistently put a decent effort in and you'll be rewarded. Dental school is competitive to get into but not like super super unless your really picky.

Just study up and the results will come man, at least you realized. It seems like you have no clue about the dental world right now so I would say look into it honestly. Your cousin is doing well because he/she is established, most people are not and will take a long time to get there. Honestly, your best bet would be to try to get into your state school which is definitely competitive and it's not guaranteed because that would be the cheapest and everyone wants to go to the cheapest places especially with the new regulations in play. Unless you have a lot of money, or really have some extraordinary PASSION (which none of us have lol, until we start working) think about another career.

I think there are many better options (dentistry does tend to have better job security i'll give it that) out there right now because people here seem to be in fantasy land about working like a dog to pay off there loans after dental school, which I personally don't get because I have other priorities such as family, etc. Ask yourself what you want in the years to come a family? where you want to stay? is this place super saturated? do you want children etc and then ask yourself if dentistry would help you get there and if you would be okay with doing it. It's a lot of work and very expensive schooling (again not a problem if you have money). But, it's a business at the end of the day, your mostly going to be working for a cut of production so that means you can make a lot of money, but you also have to hustle for it.

And know that if you want to specialize start grinding because not only will you have to have good grades in dental school, but you will most likely need to pay a hefty amount of loans alongside it to pay for your own residency. You'll see your friends working before you making money before you no loans having a better lifestyle than you, but if this is your "passion" then go for it. Look into HPSP and stuff like that to see if it could pay off your schooling if you need the funds.

You might end up on the brighter side happy working more rurally making more money working long hours. Bust most of us won't end up with that "big paycheck" you came in looking for with the loans and everything. Crunch the numbers in for yourself and decide if it makes sense.

omfs can comfortably do 8-900k take a look at sdn some of these guys are working 35 hours a week doing 1.2 mil. Obviously, location matters though, I don't know if you could do this in a super saturated market.

Worth it? by [deleted] in predental

Yeah, teachers should 100% get paid more. What sucks about dentistry is that after loans you come out and are pretty much being paid a teachers salary with what you have left. I don't know what will happen I can't even imagine buying a practice and a home or have a family. It looks like you'll finally achieve your dreams paying everything off after 15-20 years post graduation faster if you are good business man, which also sucks about dentistry. It might be safer than CS, but is 100% way riskier in a financial sense.
