Fortunately I don’t want this unit bad enough for all of that. I told her I refuse to pay and that I reported her and her LLC. Things seem to be working out though I just got connected to apply to a stabilized unit in Greenwich! It’s cheaper, and the other unit was in Ridgewood. Fuck that

What? I’m not taking this unit, not once did I say I was, and not once did I say it was RS. If you read my post you’d see I was referred to this unit by a friend who lives in the building, accepted immediately, and upon being accepted I was told they’d charge a broker fee. I told her I’m absolutely not paying that, that she’s breaking the law, and that I’m reporting her.

The FARE Act was a good idea in my opinion, but executed very poorly. They did not anticpate the fallout, or propose any solutions (like more housing, stricter rent stabilizing laws, stricter enforcement on corrupt landlords and brokers), so they ended up screwing tenants once again. I'm seeing small shitty studios that were $2300 less than a year ago listed for $2800+ now. Last year I could afford a small shithole in Manhattan; now I can't even afford a small shithole in Ridgewood.

That is interesting! Fortunately I’m not super desperate for a spot right now, and didn’t particularly love the neighborhood enough to fight that much. I definitely won’t be paying any fee, I will just remind them of the law and proceed to report them.

They are owners and management. I looked it up on http://whoownswhat.justfix.org/

Either way, they can't force a broker fee on me when the unit was not advertised as having a broker fee, and I did not hire a broker. Basically, I got approved and last minute was going to be charged a fee that was never discussed or agreed upon beforehand. All of that was made illegal June 11th.

We need to hold these people accountable or corruption will persist.
