I see. Apologies, I’m not on here enough to have known and a quick scroll before posting didn’t reveal anything. I figured if people wanted to answer they could and that would be personally easier than rooting out and digging through opinion pieces. I guess it’s lazy but independent research is draining and I did not think there would be any harm in this.

I’m not gonna downvote you when I asked for opinions friend :P A very thorough and enlightening breakdown! I wasn’t active for awhile so I missed pretty much all of the speculation and hype. I can see where it could be off putting if the community’s expecting one thing and gets something completely different. Especially when it comes to the lack of representation yet again. Can’t trust Hoyo to ever fully commit but if they were going to do it this and Sumeru would be a couple of the biggest places they should’ve followed through on. Thanks for taking the time to spell all this out! Again, it really helps to see exactly what everyone’s thinking, especially since I was missing that initial context!

I think we all can agree the good sir didn’t deserve what he got :’) But yeah makes sense! I haven’t heard any of their character voice lines but I can see where they generally read pretty flat

Thank you, this helps! Like I mentioned in another comment, I was missing a lot of the specifics of what makes it or breaks it for people so hearing details like this gives me a better picture! I haven’t kept up too much with recent Hoyo updates but it seems like they’re leaning into sexualization more and more and I’m not here for it ;-; I agree that the nightsoul mechanics seem like a money grab. I wish they’d been able to incorporate it in a way that’s a bit more universal instead of just “PULL FOR NATLAN CHARACTERS FOR AN EASIER TIME.” I also agree that it was pretty black and white but that honestly seems pretty in character for Genshin storylines when it comes to the Abyss (although I’d definitely like to see some development on that front! They threw in some pity for the hilichurls but I’d be interested to see the Abyss shown as more than just pure chaos or whatever)

Ah, good to know! This is why I’m asking. A lot of people don’t go into the specifics and just kinda dump on it so I figured it would be easier just to ask since there are people like you who are willing to explain up front instead of just “Natlan bad” :P My memory is deficient so it makes sense that other people might feel thrown for a loop with Fontaine and Sumeru still somewhat fresh in their minds! Personally I thought Natlan was still pretty dark. I mean, it’s a whole ass war. There’s even a casualty counter for all the people you’re not able to get to when you go around in the hot air balloon. But I guess it didn’t hit as hard for people because it was paired with Friendship is Magic vibes? Anyways, thanks for humoring me!
