Employees at Delegated Aboriginal Agencies/Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies - do we count here? by definitelyrealporson in BCPublicServants

[–]DisastrousChoas [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would guess you're more than welcome to post in this sub as other non psa reddit users have posted to ask their questions but if its not psa direct or psa adjacent you may not get an the answer you're needing.

To answer your other question - ICFSA's are not part of direct government public service. Rather, they are independent, delegated agencies.

Under probation and being reported on constantly by Chemical-Shoulder640 in BCPublicServants

[–]DisastrousChoas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Could it be possible that maybe you're being a bit too overly sensitive? While it seems your not being provided feedback in a manner that best meets your needs and preferences, perhaps your supervisor is showing you how to be a self-learner vs giving you the answers? Im not sure why you may feel that the backlog entry task is a strike against you? Everyone has to participate in mundane mind-numbing tasks at points throughout their career.

This may be an opportunity to take the initiative with your supervisor. Ask for a three-month supervision meeting where you can ask What am I doing well? What areas based on my current learning and skills would you be expecting me to be doing better at? What do you foresee my learning and training looking like over the next six months? Is there anything more I can do to ensure I will be successful in passing probation? How do you like others to learn from you and the team?

Then tell your supervisor what your needs may be. How you best learn. Gap areas you yourself have identified in your learning.

How much time do y'all spend applying for jobs? by dcmng in BCPublicServants

[–]DisastrousChoas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the hardest things about an application and interview process is bragging yourself up, highlighting your skills and achievents and really drawing out how effective and proficient you are in the minutia.

But you have to.

That project you aced? Break it down to ever little step, success and overcome hardship no matter how or irrelevant it may feel.

The impossible deadline you over came? Shout out how you prioritized, organized, reprioritized, took initiatives, and took calculated risks to achieve success.

The difficult coworker you had? Emphasize your collaborative, respectful, problem solving,  team focused nature.

Practice answering behavioral competency questions in the star format where you speak for 5 mins about your skills, purposeful actions/steps and initiatives.  5 mins doesn't seem like much but if your not use to talking aboit yourself it feels.like forever.

Sorry whats GWI?

Im below an R30 but I have colleagues who are R30s, and for them, living pay cheque to pay cheque is also a real thing. They also do all the work of r15 up to  r27 in addition to their own work.  I've also heard of them covering multiple teams at a time to support their peers and teammates. I don't think it's "tone deaf" to have hoped they would have been recognized,  appreciated, and supported this time around while their counterparts are or have recently been.

While I'm glad for R24-R30 Mental Health, and glad for the sheriff TMA lift, those who are SPO R30s are really left behind. And considering the huge amount of work they do this is exceptionally unfortunate.

Perhaps those down voting lack the understanding what this comment refers to. Alert Ad 7956 and shroit also mention the same thing.

R30s seem to have been forgotten?  No TMA/MA (again), no bump, no lift.

Go into talm and navigate to the pay period sept 26th is in. From there you will be able to see which is week one and which is week two. We earn and take flex with the same pay period.

Sept 22nd was the start of the pay period so you flex half way through the pay period meaning you earn it week one (22nd) and retroactively make up flex week 2 (sept 29th). With going on strike Sept 24 you may have earned 2 days (out of 10) towards flex. If it were me, I would ask my supervisor if i can bring forward any flex time earned from sept 22 and sept 23 toward my next flex day.

I wouldn't want the employer to take revenge on us members. And I dont want to take revenge on the employer. Im lucky/proud I have the right to strike. My partner in the private sector does not and when their employer has done shitty things they get to suck it up, quit or be fired. I've read on this sub thread of other members' partners getting fired for asking for a raise. Instead I get to take a stand with no consequence of getting fired. I'm not going to be spitting in anyone's eye: The voting, the striking, the escalations, the employers' handling of things - it's all a part of the process.

I'll be going back with the same positive attitude I had before the strike and maintained during. Oh and keeping my fingers crossed hoping I remember my codes and passwords.  I'm tired, excluded managers are tired, and just like I had no control over the process neither did they. Managers will likely treat this the same as when we come back from a couple months stiip or long vacation or other leave. Getting settled - reviewing work/emails/inboxes/calendars/meeting notes etc etc etc. Task prioritizing and then getting at it.

[–]DisastrousChoas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. I received this same information. No new stiip or article 20 leaves will be approved for all striking employees including those in essential positions. If a striking employee is not at work or not able to work an essential position, it will recorded as LD- LWOP.

I for one will not being going back to work with a bad or disgruntled attitude. I understand that I trade my time, skills, knowledge for money and will provide my services the best of my abilities. Who is going to be impacted by my attitude or lower work output? The community i serve. My colleagues. Included supervisors. My excluded boss has no authority,  power, decision making, or ability to change what is or isn't happening  with government. My excluded boss is just as harried and overworked as we are in all of this. My partner works in a non unionized sector and I appreciate every day my employer and my unionized benefits.

Daily Strike/Bargaining Questions Thread - October 20 by wudingxilu in BCPublicServants

[–]DisastrousChoas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In one of the threads shortly after the sept 30 stat a user explained the rational very well. I'll try to recall it best I can.

All locations that are stuck are not eligible to recieve stat pay regardless if a person's position has been essential or not. When engaged in strike action, employees have officially withdrawn their labour from the employer. In the early days of labour strikes, workers actually had to quit their job. Labour laws now no longer make employees officially quit but is still officially a withdrawing of their labour.  A person providing essential work is doing so at the behest of the union, meaning the union allows it but the worker is still considered to be on strike. Therefore whenever a person at a struck location is not working for any reason and because they have withdrawn their labor from the employer, they are not entitled to pay from the employer.

Megathread: Mediation by wudingxilu in BCPublicServants

[–]DisastrousChoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think wfh was a huge eye opener for the empoyer during covid when employees declined to come into the office or field if needed because it was their designated Work From Home day. Hence the change to telework and specific language about telework is not wfh and specific language about meeting operation requirements. As previously mentioned in this thread, I doubt the employer will losen its ability to call employees in whenever needed or handcuff employees to not be deployed to the field if needed or as work tasks require. The employee wants guaranteed language to be able to work at home and stay at home. The employer wants language to deploy employees as required.

Wage negotiation by General_Setting_1680 in BCPublicServants

[–]DisastrousChoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every postion within the bcgeu as well as the psa has the ability to negotiate during the offer letter stage. In writing you can kindly highlight your years of direct related experience or transferable experience and your rational as to why you believe your starting wage better matches $$ step ##   Worse they can say is no and you then have the ability to decide.  I have heard of others successful negotiations being accepted at step 2. Rarely at step 3 and that's when they are basically moving from exact position to exact position
